Tiawa - I'll post a review and pictures when I get back on the 24th! It sounds like a lot of things have work themselves out at the HV, so I'm sure I'll have nothing but great things to report!

I would LOVE to see these pics. I am certain things are going to be fine. I have a friend returning today from HV and I will get the low down from her and post some of the things she tells me. I think her kids are 11 and 6.

I have seen people pay when they are over their weight but it looks like they are going to ask you to re-pack your items and eliminate some things so it is at the appropriate weight depending on what airway your are flying with. Give them a call to double check.

A question for Planner,

You are truly a pro at what I have been reading so far!! Great work. I wanted to know how far it is to the Watersports center from HV. There is a fishing excursion that some of are going to prob. go on. I think it's the mel tours.
Thks

Excursions: you are not required to book your tours through either Signature or First Choice. Other distribution channels offer the exact same tours. So, if you are booking the same tour your insurance will cover it.

HOWEVER - beware of the CHEAP excursions offered on the beach and elsewhere. They cannot offer a properly licensed and insured tour with licensed guides for that small amount of money! Make sure when booking tours that they are fully licensed and insured.

I will repeat my earlier advice - if your rep gives you good service and offers a decent price - book with them. IF they don't then take your business where you choose.

I personally can speak of the professionalism of Martin Espinal at Isaira Tours. They offer pretty much the same tours as First Choice and Signature.
Isaira Tours - Dominican Republic

YEs Monster Truck is good and safe.(about 89US) So are many of the jeep safaris. I love the Catamaran trip offered by Freestyle. Stay away from the party boat Catamaran. It isn't worth it. There are many tours to choose from, find what you like.

The beer of choice is Presidente. The rum of choice is Brugal. IF you like dark the Extra Old is very nice and very inexpensive. They also make a white which I prefer. Also buy cinammon, nutmeg etc here. And of course vanilla for cooking.

Thanks honey!!! The watersports center - well that could be any one of several places. Pm or email me some additional info and I will see if I can help you.

Oilers fan - I remember watching Wayne Gretsky play when he was 15 years old...... way before Edmonton got him. So how are they doing these days?

Hockey is NOT something we get to see down here. Pretty hard to get ice rinks here.... I will stick to working on my tan lines thank you very much. Bring me an Edmonton newpaper if you can!

Pictures From New Years Week

Anyone have any recent pictures? I would love to see some!

HI Prettypalecanuck:

I have quite a few photos (about 150 kb each in size) the week of Dec 28, 2006 to Jan 04, 2007. If you wish, and if it's OK with Planner, I can have them posted.

My family and I had an awesome time in Holiday Village, and there no doubt is something for everyone to do. Folks in our group ranged in age from toddlers to teens to adults, and it was a perfect place for all to "vege out", relax and enjoy the sun and warmth. The food and drinks were excellent, with a wide selection available. We were really impressed by the Italian restaurant, and two of our group who ate in the Oriental Restaurant were also impressed.

We could still see some renovations going on - the beach bar was open, but the restaurant side was still being built. The beach volleyball net poles were installed on 03-Jan. On the day we left, technicians started installing what looked like new phones into our cabin. However the resort was quite functional and we were extremely happy with the service and available activities!

Cheers

A Not So Pale Anymore Kuhny

This is great

Has anyone else noticed that most of the recent reviews are totally favorable? Seems like things at the resort are improving.

Now I am really excited to go. February 7 just cant come fast enough! :cheeky:

The resort is definitely working very well, despite the "renovation pains". I'm guessing in a month most of the remaining "bugs" will be fixed or toast, even on "Island Time". I noticed the pace of construction on the beach bar facility picking up considerably after New Year's Day.

Hello Again ... Very Pale Canuck!

No, you do not have to go through someone first to book your outings, but Martin (whom Planner is recommending) offers to come to the resort to show you his day excursions, he has all the required insurance policies, and is an all around great guy ... So why not encourage his business? His website is
Isaira Tours - Dominican Republic

There is also Sosua,Cabarete,Puerto Plata,Touren,Ausfluege,Reisen,Dominikanische Republik,Dom Rep, the reservation lady is Vicky, she is Canadian and very helpful as well.

I have also sent emails, and gotten replies from, the people at Monstruck Truck (which you can book through Isaira) at Monster Safari - Welcome
and the Freestyle Hobie Cat guys at freestylecats@yahoo.ca, the name is Mike Evans.

Hope all of this helps!

Sophie

Otherwise, here is the website adress

Hi there. Over the years, we have created something which has come to be known as the "human repair kit". It's a bag containing things like aloe lotion for sunburns, immodium, chewable pepto, first aid kit, pain killers, halls and what ever else we can think of right before we leave. This year it will also contain insect repellent with a lot of deet! :)

The kit is a great idea: add anti itch ointment and antibacterial cream. Then if you do get bit and you itch - no infection and stop the itch.......
