Go through the list for different images showing the storm as it approaches.
The links are great, but this forum, Weather & Beyond was born because the many weather links didn't focus on the Dominican Republic, rather the focus was on how the island affected the storm so that they could forecast if it would hit the United States. So, here we focus on what is happening in this island. We follow the same links, though, to monitor the storms as their path takes them this way.
Actually the forum was strictly on hurricanes, until in 2003, we were hit by a 6+ earthquake and the Beyond was added.
I started the forum myself because I was an addict to hurricane watching. Note that I grew up in a house right on the Malecon, the sea-fronting boulevard of SAnto Domingo, and was there when David in 1979. My father was a sea captain and built the house solid and I felt that if the house couldn't take David, nothing would matter. David entered near the house a Category 5 storm. We lost our front door, but the house structure stood solid. We took refuge in the kitchen that was a step up from the floor. Santo Domingo was without power and telephone, etc. for about six months after David, so that was a great training ground for having respect for storms.
Now things are quite different. Actually, the Dominican Republic, taking aside all those who live in indigent poverty in vulnerable areas, is one of the best places to wage out a storm. Here backup power setups are the norm, the telephone cables are underground, and people have water filtration systems in their home or business, there are many bottled water operations.
But of course, Santo Domingo, for one floods in big rains. But people for the most part know the vulnerabilities of where they live....
Here it will be time for sancochos and cocidos. Took down the trampoline and brought in my herbs....
