I imported a Yamaha Raptor 700R (ATV - about 400 lbs - shipped in a crate) that was supposed to be import duty free as they are now made in the US. Purchase price was US$8,300 it ended up costing me around US$3,500 in import duties, brokerage fees, bribes, etc. thats not counting shipping costs, I am not sure of those since we shipped it with some work items in a container.

This is the ATV i would buy if i ever owned an ATV. I think after 2006, they went with electronically controlled fuel injection...that's the one i would buy--any between 2006 to 2013. They're a rocketship!

I am putting on a double exhaust and fuel controller for an extra 20% hp. I will post some pics once all the mods are done.

I am thinking -dreaming - of an ATV .

How did your final cost compare to the SD cost from a local dealer?
The shipping would be $2k , mas o menos, IMO

Not everyone thinks so.

This is one of the most hilarious websites on motorcyccling I've ever seen:

American Angst: Making Fun of Flag Slathered Retards and Trend Himping Fashion Lemmings since 1993

I don't agree with all he says, but the ngy DOES have a fantastic way with words:

Why a Harley Davidson Isn't a Real American Motorcycle

It's kinda funny-the new Harley's now have water cooling. And they're being hailed as cutting-edge mega-tech wizards...:ckeeky:

I couldn't find a dealer that carried a brand new 2013 Raptor, but I live on the North Coast and dont spend much time in Santiago or Sto Dgo. I probably just didn't know where to go. But since we have a good customs broker and we ship items monthly I tried to import it myself due to the 2013 being manufactured in the US and it technically being subject to DR-CAFTA. I don't have the breakdown of charges yet, because I am currently in the US, but it seems like I paid duties like it was not a duty free import item.

This is maybe a little too harsh, but it is hilarious:
Harsh, no doubt. But so is the snark Harley acolytes put on others.

My bar in Largo FL drew a lot of motorcycle guys, 90% Harleys. There was one guy who was constantly talking about how Harley is "American Made" and that's why he liked it and "Jap Crap" bikes were all "cheap rice burners." I challenged him and we bet $20 that a Harley was Made in America.

So we went outside to his chrome draped $26,000 Lazy Boy. I pointed to his carburetor. There it was: "Mikuni. Made in Japan." :cheeky: He pulled out his Harley wallet attached with a chain. As he was digging out the $20, I pointed to the little label inside the money area: Made in Mexico.

He never mentioned "Made in America" again, but did mention the "rice burner" thing. A couple of weeks later I rode my VTX 1800C to work. I had it unbranded, there wasn't a Honda or VTX or any identifier on it. He asked what it was and I told him a Custom bike. I gave him the keys to take it for a spin. Keep in mind his 1450cc harley has around 68hp/82ft.lbs at 800lbs, and my VTX ran 110hp/120ft.lbs at 720lbs. He was gone for a while and upon returning proclaimed "this is the fastest, smoothest Harley powered bike I've ever ridden."

I told him, "It's not a Harley. It's a Honda. $10,000. Water cooled."

His jaw dropped. Never again did he mention "Jap Crap..."

This is maybe a little too harsh, but it is hilarious:

I don't think it is harsh at all and I love them! (obviously)

LOL! I do love Harley's but not in the DR! One thing I knew I had to give up coming here.
The only people I don't laugh at are the Hell's Angels :hurt:
I don't laugh at Crips or MS-13 either...;)

You should read Sonny Bargers autobiography. He states the single biggest mistake he made in formoing the HA's is going along with Harleys. He said they should have adopted Jap bikes because they were so much better and cheaper to modify...

Sonny Barger now rides a Victory and says that he should have a long time ago.

True, many Harley riders talk more than they ride and wear more Harley swag than they should. My Honda Magna eats my Harley and is much more comfortables....but my Honda just isn't a Harley. It's like the whole Jeep thing....they ride rough, technology hasn't changed much since the Willies....but Jeep owners love them and I have one of those as well. Sucker for punishement maybe????? September is not fun on a Harley....just too damn hot.
