All of the products they design are inferior. They contract with large companies to assemble anything and everything. Cheap labor is all they have. The only reason anyone buys Chinese products is because they are cheap. Cars, heavy equipment etc. A "made in China" label indicates low quality.
The above is what I call propaganda.

Your post cannot be taken seriously, starting with

It shows that you are stuck in this old cliche that everything coming from China is crap. It`s not!

What technology is China known for?

A 2023 Australian Strategic Policy Institute study of what it deemed as 44 critical technologies concluded that China leads the world in 37 of them, including 5G internet, electric batteries, and hypersonic missiles.

Would love to know your source.

From Internet.
A 2023 Australian Strategic Policy Institute study of what it deemed as 44 critical technologies concluded that China leads the world in 37 of them, including 5G internet, electric batteries, and hypersonic missiles.

From Tim Cook

From my personal experience.
I have a drone from DJI and a 3D printer from BambuLab.Those 2 companies are leaders in their respective fields.

The DR should spend more time and money on infrastructure improvements beyond building highways to serve the tourist markets. They can start with the electrical grid and move to logistics (i.e., a functioning postal system). If they had one, the original post would not even be a topic of discussion.

To your post, perhaps Big's source is the more respected gii 2024 index https://www.wipo.int/web-publications/global-innovation-index-2024/en/gii-2024-results.html.

Suffice to say not all Chinese products are inferior.......just most of them......and the ones that might be superior likely had their original technology developed elsewhere and stolen. In that category the Chinese are the hands down winner.

Respectfully,

Thank you for pointing out the GII 2024.
I read this :

Innovation leaders in 2024

Asian middle-income economies China, India, Indonesia and Türkiye surge ahead.

I also read this :
The United States follows Singapore globally, ranking 1st worldwide in nine indicators (four less than in 2023), including holding the top spot in Global corporate R&D investors, Unicorn valuation and Intangible asset intensity.

China follows in 3rd place, leading in eight innovation indicators (two more than in 2023), including Utility models, Trademarks and Industrial designs.

OK, enjoy your Chinese products. Nothing says quality like a pair of plastic crocs and a "Rolodex" wristwatch.

Miami freight forwarders might be able to find a way to avoid tariffs on goods from China and other countries since those goods are not intended for use in the USA. It is in their best interests to find a way.

Certain zip codes are already supposed to be exempt from Florida state sales tax.

Your welcome.

A much different take than the Australian Strategic Policy Institute findings you referenced above.

I am quite surprised that Switzerland ranks so highly. The Chinese have been unable to replicate Rolex.....but they keep trying and there is a market for those inferior products.

I understand that this is the topic of the moment (news wise), but we need to keep it DR related.

Wishful thinking to believe there can be a seamless integration importing from aliexpress, or alibaba or..... into the DR.

There is no infrastructure to deliver goods in any significant amounts.........and if/when they ever did..........watch just as fast how ITBIS would be applied as the DR recognizes another source of tax revenue.

Everybody wants it free, unfortunately things do not work that way.

Thank you all for your answers.

Based on those, I am planning to do the following :

1- Nothing until May 2,
and then
A- Order a non-electronic part on Aliexpress using my current Miami freight forwarder, BM Cargo.
Phone computers and electronic parts got an exemption last night.

B- Talk to BM Cargo if there is a way they can guarantee that the US tax won`t be applied for any future purchases

2- If not successful, I will look for another freight forwarder.

3- Last resort: Open up a PO Box in Sosua.

Peace.

I don`t want it free, but I don`t want to be a victim of the trade war that Trump started if I don`t need to.
