Sounds to me like this is more of an issue with the remodeling and the columns being removed. Maybe poor engineering(?). It wouldn't be the first time that was the cause of a structural failure. Also, were required inspections and routine maintenance done? Think of the collapse of the condo in Sunrise, Florida.

Well the maintenance facts are coming out already and some are pretty specific. It is clear people want answers and not a coverup.
Anyway, my stepdaughter has frequented Jet Set in recent years and a friend of her that was probably there during the collapse is still missing.

I hope the investigation focuses on those possible causes even though it may be reflective of a lack of enforcement of engineering standards which is the government‘s responsibility. Still lots of coverage on US and Canadian media outlets. Many of the DR citizens interviewed blame the collapse on the fire in 2023. All want answers from the government.

The DR at his finest !!!!
I hate to be the negative a..hole again but i just have to.
All big Gas Station chains issued an alert.
It looks like that Rescue Personal is stealing credit cards from the insured and deceased
and they are being widely used but mostly in gas stations.
You can't make this shit up.

it stated clear: "So far, the authorities have not yet officially ruled on the fact."

So it's not true, as of yet. So therefore, false news.

Do you think that they will confirm something like this ??? This is like shooting your self in the leg. But
Interesting logic if have to admit. The Government does not confirm that the people they send to rescue somebody is stealing, so it must be false news.

Forgive me my ignorance but do they not require the PIN when paying with a card? The news story says that you have to ID the paying customers? How exactly are they using the cards?

DR1 is full of posts about road accident victims, gringo and locals, having their personal belongings stolen by locals. There are also posts about PN staff removing personal belongings and furniture from victim’s houses at murder scenes. No surprise if response staff are stealing victim’s personal belongings at the JetSet disaster site. Just don’t expect government verification of the report.

PIN’s are only required for purchases exceeding a certain amount, $100, $200, etc. Depends on the card and the company.

no pin required. Some Banks offer you to have this option activated but hardly anybody does it.

You are 100% right. When somebody is loaded to an ambulance in the DR and this person has a friend or family member closed by, they will take all valuables away before he is taken away. So nothing really new about this.

News to me. None of our cards have ever allowed any transactions over like 50 EUR without a PIN but we have never even used this feature. I hope that posted news is not correct.

When my best friend died in Sosua of a heart attack the cops took ALL of his money and belongings right down to his socks, never to be seen again, several thousand dollars in the safe. They wouldn't even give his girlfriend money for a moto. When a son of a wealthy businessman in Sosua was killed on the highway riding his ATV he was stripped of his money and jewelry by locals in broad daylight with dozens of witnesses including two of my friends...ANIMALS.

Did you see the rescue staff being references somewhere? I can't find that in the article you linked. Just that "desaprensivos" use those...
