That’s something I’d need to see to believe. Until then, on behalf of the WaPo, I award you the following!

I said it was a poverty thing. It's not like it's an every day dish here. Eating cats and dogs is fairly common in some parts of the world like in Asia. They have actual markets for cat and dog meat and sell it in restaurants.

You need to get out more. You're spending too much time banging away on the keyboard. Go to some barrios and ask. Just because one has never heard or seen it personally doesn't mean it's not true. if I hadn't posted the video of a Haitian eating a barbecued human cadaver, would you have believed it?

With the abundance of food where they've been "relocated" to..
I have a hard time believing it however the ducks (which I happen to love)
makes purrrfect sense.

So hell why not?

40-36 82nd St

Flushing, New York, 11373

Punch it in google and verify it for yourself .

Very simple actually to figure out ,especially if you are a New Yorker .
So, they're eating cats in New York?

The Haitian cleaning out some bushes in the backyard while a bunch of stray cats were hanging out said he would eat them and that they taste like rabbit. I took it as a joke with a large amount of truth.

Although I guess a lot of these stories in the US are exaggerated it might also raise the awareness and support for the Haiti intervention that no one is interested in until the consequences are in their backyard..

Somehow I doubt it as well, although they have been known to throw the occasional Mr Ed on the pulla! Haitians, yup cat, dog, rats, pigeons no sweat and not even out of desperation. Heck, they’d hack up and eat a cadaver if they found one on the way home from the construction site I’m told!
You have my admiration EHM. You’re not only brave enough to go down the cat eating myth rabbit hole, you come out the other end with the logic of the Mad Hatter. Your last line is tongue in cheek but insightful. We are not averse to dining on our own kind if the situation is dire enough. Remember the soccer team that crashed in the mountains and the survivors ended up consuming human flesh? Proof that anything is possible for our dietary needs.

I’ve never had the need or desire to eat felines. Big or small. I’ve been adventurous with wild game, having tasted moose, caribou, bear, beaver(no pun or double entendre intended), duck, goose, deer, partridge, seal, rabbit, etc. Tried goat at my friend’s house in Luperon. Not one of my favourite domesticated meats.

In defence of Haitian cultural norms, you can’t take starved poor desperate people from a country ravaged by civil war and place them in the middle of a totally different cultural environment and expect them to assimilate immediately. As much as the US tries to be a Cultural melting pot, it is really a mosaic. Lines are drawn and never crossed. People are born and raised in the bowels of the large cities and never learn to speak English or adapt to US cultural norms.

I‘m not surprised by what’s happening to the legal and illegals Haitians in the US nor am I surprised by disgruntled local citizens with overactive imaginations and an immigration axe to grind, creating social media myths.

I have to cut this post short. I swear I just saw a UFO hovering over the lake next to my house. Gotta run! I’m extremely averse to anal probing. If I don’t post anything over the next two
weeks, expect the worst.

Now that AE explained in post #31 that this is the only forum that doesn't need to be DR related, ok. I doubt everyone else here knew that too.
Hola JLS. As a newbie you missed the good old days of the Off Topic threads. Basically a free for all where very little was sacred and the mods earned their money trying to herd cats. It thickened your skin against criticism if you had the guts to post there. I try to be gracious when I post but I miss the OT days.

Bingo! The main reason the US and Canada came up with funds to support the intervention is, they don’t want the Haitian refugee floodgates opening up and spilling into the US and Canada.

Having said that, I will also say new Haitians arriving in Montreal or Toronto seem to assimilate quickly with the support of the cities large Haitian communities. Maybe due to the fact that our immigration system is different than the US system. Of the 3000 or so Haitian immigrants that tried to enter Quebec from the US side, less than 80 were granted asylum. They proved they had sponsors and financial support in Canada.

Let me fix that for you:
US (95%) and Canada (5%)!

Hola Ecoman - I've been on DR1 since 2018 (had to look at my account to see that myself :)) so I don't know how to get rid of the newbie tag. I guess I could spew out a bunch of replies to all sorts of threads and see if there's a magic number! I too try to be gracious...nothing is gained by senseless criticism over social media. Anonymity makes some people a lot braver (and meaner) than they would be in person.

Apologies for the newbie label. I joined three years earlier. Despite its warts, DR1 has been a good source of local information for me. Good advice on real estate, gringo rights or lack of in the DR, the trials and tribulations of pursing citizenship, and safety on the DR roads. I travelled the North Coast roads for 17 winters and relied on DR1 to keep me posted on dangerous areas to avoid.

Strange to me that this thread is DR-Haiti related. I can suggest Twitter X, Reddit or TikTok for some posters to let off steam. And it's mostly anonymous like dr1.
