I went into my account today. Called a number. Waited. Finally talked to someone. They said I need to fill out a form and mail it (no idea how to mail from DR to USA?). I told her I can't mail it. She gave me another number to call. On hold for a few minutes short of an hour and still listening to the musac. Will up date someday when someone picks up the phone and speaks to me.

I was told that MBE is able to mail to the USA. I have yet to try it but need to shortly, probably next week. I will let you know if this works.

Looks like they use these couriers to do so...may not be all that advantageous

This thread brings to mind a related subject that we need to discuss: What documents are valid and legal that can be transmitted electronically. And , in what form are signatures accepted between the two countries?
For example I have used electronics to buy and sell houses interstate in the US electronically. Later filed in the system.
I have used a photograph of my signature on a sign-off doc to do the same.
And, I have also used Docu-sign as well.

What methods can be used inter-country DR-USA?

Mods I know this is off-topic but if you think a new thread should be opened... you're the boss.

Great information here! Thanks!!!

Perhaps others could share their plans and experiences.
I am with Humano - second best plan. I started with them 9 years ago when I moved here. Included in my plan is $20k pesos of medications. In order to compare plans it's important to compare apples with apples. The cost depends on coverage and age. This year my premium doubled - I turned 71. In 2022, they covered my hip replacement, my out-of-pocket was not very much. I am satisfied with the coverage and I use most of the $20kpesos of medic. Total premium this year is $1900us (which I pay once/year).

I am 70 years old. With Universal. I rarely use it although 5 years ago I had a knee replacement and it paid almost 100%.

I pay my own pharmacy bills, dental bills, and I think a co-pay on doctor consultations. Do not know. They always ask for my card and then I pay 1,000 pesos.

Since my knee replacement I have not
Used the insurance.

My annual bill is 182,976. And I have the basic Medicare in the US.

In what hospital/clinic and city did you have the hip replacement? I may need to consider one sometime down the road

What I wonder is if it would be wiser to upgrade my Medicare plan and downgrade my insurance here.
But how often do you go to the US and use Medicare? I was just in the US visiting family and made an appointment with my sister's doctor for the Medicare annual wellness visit. I have never done this. I pretty much ignore all communication from Medicare because it's of no use to me living here. The US doctor told me it was a good thing I did the appointment because apparently if you don't (for a certain time or number, I don't know, didn't ask) Medicare will downgrade your plan for non-compliance. This is probably something I should look into. I am very happy with my ARS Universal insurance here. I live here and it is ultimately of much more importance to me than Medicare. Having said that, I am very grateful to have Medicare. One never knows......
