Authorities of Cabarete are expected to deliver a construction stop order to Lifestyle Holidays Vacation Resort for the construction of a hotel on the beach that is considered to be in violation of zoning laws. Rafael Martínez, president of the council issuing the order, said that the executives of the company have not been able to present any document confirming pertinent permits or clearances to carry out the works.

As reported, the zoning authorized height for constructions in the area is three floors and Lifestyle is building five floors. Furthermore, there have been complaints that the builders are modifying an area of the beach within 60 meters for a Beach Club and Restaurant that also would be in violation to zoning rules.

From what I understand, Lifestyle has a history of "taking over" an area and doing what they want without any care on the impact. Lifestyle is not liked by residents in Cofresi and Costambar. The most common trangression is that their helicopter pilots always disregard the direction (a law?) That they are to fly over the water. They fly low and MANY times a day conversation must stop due to noise.

The current Lifestyles Cabarete is what it is. Another tourist resort in an already congested over exploited area, albeit a high end one. A way will be found to grease the palms of the government officials to overlook the zoning transgressions or retroactively get the necessary planning permissions to complete the project. It's being done by necessity. Lifestyles Cofresi is literally bursting at the seams. They need the Cabarete facility.

since when do helicopters only fly over water when every pilot knows that it is a risk to fly over water and it is to be avoided whenever possible, and didnt know that helicopters worldwide are only used for overwater flights loool by LAW loool.

thank god theres no helicopters around miami, monaco etc, this is much more sophisticated, this is cofresi and costambar., and if you got it approved by some judge, how much did you have to grease his hands to come up with such bs ?

amazing how a bunch of green losers that do not contribute anything to the development or improve the quality of life on this island, can ruin other peoples visions and talk so much crap without having any of the facts straight.

Dom, if you noticed I said "it is my understanding". This information was provided by many people that live in Cofresi and Costambar. Perhaps it was a verbal agreement with Lifestyle to run along the coast instead of the residential area. Apparently they did this for a short time.

I don't know who the green losers are that you refer to and who is talking crap. I am only a member of this board making comments like any other member here.

Real interested in seeing what they do beach side. The condo/hotel next door that has been rehabbed is being assaulted at high tide

SQ,

The helicopters that I see regularly are from two companies. Lifestyles choppers do regular runs from Gregorio Luperon airport to their Cofresi base. For the most part, they are over the water but hug the coastline to give their clientele a birds eye view of the resorts, beaches and housing developments. They are limited by aviation rules to a minimum height above residential and commercial areas. Lifestyles have one turbine powered chopper and two smaller piston powered choppers. All have the Lifestyles logo visible on their sides. The turbine powered chopper has the very distinct high pitched engine whine easily heard at low levels. The piston powered choppers are quieter.

There are helicopter touring firms operating out of Playa Dorada on a regular basis. Their landing base is near the Grand Ventana resort. They tend to do go slower and possibly lower when sightseeing. I've seen a few flying really low over the Playa Dorada beaches. The probably get special clearances to do that. Like the Lifestyle choppers, they are also restricted to a minimum height over residential and commercial areas. The touring companies use the noisier turbine powered helicopters. The ones I've seen and heard don't have company logos on them.

Your probably seeing and hearing a combination of both. The Lifestyles choppers do many runs all day long during the high season. I've seen all three Lifestyles choppers going constantly usually hugging the coastline and rarely flying low over residential and commercial areas. That's not to say they don't do it. I'm betting the Lifestyle chopper pilots get a nice tip if they go low and slow and give the clientele a nice tour. I doubt there is a formal agreement in place to restrict Lifestyle choppers. They and the tour operators have to abide by mandatory aviation minimum height rules.

Once they pay off the right people, they can probably continue to build the beach side restaurant and cafe. They may have to build a retaining wall. Anything is possible in the DR if you have the money and the laws are not working for you.

The beach hawkers are going to be upset. They won't be allowed anywhere near the Lifestyles beach area in Cabarete.

Twin engine helicopters are certified to fly long distances over water. The ones that service the offshore oil rigs are fully certified to do so as are military search and rescue choppers. I've spent hundreds of hours flying oiled coastlines in single engine choppers sometimes hugging the shoreline and, other times, flying offshore to check out remote islands. The pilot has the discretion to do that and I trust their judgement. I actually had a forced landing in a chopper because of engine failure. We were offshore, near the coast and has enough altitude to autorotate and land on the beach. They can and do fly over water. It has to be done safely.

On top of the main administration building in Cofresi. I tried to use their wi-fi and enjoy a drink there once. Very frustrating with choppers constantly coming and going. They have a designated area elsewhere for the helos to overnight park. Btw, Got the medical work done. No damage to my ticker. Good to go. Just have to stay on one heartbeat regulation pill for now.

Danilo travels the entire country the same way. He flies over my house all the time. Leonel was the same. They keep pretty tight formations. Cool stuff.

Good to hear the heart can still be regulated. I have a friend, a guitar maker in POP, who may not be so lucky with his AFIB problem. Meds and surgical procedures may not be able to help him.

I was wondering where the helipad for Lifestyles is in Cabarete.

Good to hear you'll be with us for a while. Now we can get together and hoist a few jars listening to The Dubliners.

I was wondering where the helipad for Lifestyles is in Cabarete.

Lifestyles helicopters have become somewhat common in Cabarete. Helicopters seem to be landing near Viva. Far enough away I can't confirm they are the lifestyles copters, but close enough to be annoying as fok. I suspect once in operation they will land at their property. Poor procab and main street residents.

Yes. Main street in cabarete is noisy with motos and trucks, but away from it, it's quiet. Unfortunately now I'm dealing with helicopter noise occasionally as I'm on the bay. Not the worst thing, but annoying and sure to get worse as more frequent flights occur.

Total stupidity the copters and limos. But it's all part of the dog and pony show that convinces people they're getting something for their money. So many nicer places to stay and better food at restaurants than lifestyles offers.
