thanks this is the kind of info I was looking for...its not that i will be getting ripped off at ALL...it that some people who get all excited about something, can over speculate , and have visions of grand expectations...

and I wouldnt expect a "family" discount while I pay...because quite franky , I doubt the guy is in the financial postion to cut any one any slack...he lives pretty poorly.....I have other friends who are doing well. and if I bought something from one of their stores....I could excpect to get it free or at cost....but i dont need much beauty supply stuff( their buisness!)!!!!!!!!!( or maybe I need a whole bunch, depends on how you look at it ha ha)

besides you have to add in the cost of the pigs as well as the feed=18,000 pesos....possible profit at the new "adjusted market rate" prices .. ha ha ha=$6,000 peso.... thats if none die!!!!!!

bob

oh you're right.. how did i miss that... the cost of pigs.

8x3,000 = 24,000-less 8,000 cost-less 10,000 feeding = 6,000 gain
that is after 3 or 4 months.... looking at 2,000/month profit for 3 months work.

Tell her not to feel too sorry for him. Unless he was fired for just cause he received 23 days of liquidation pay for each year or 161 days of pay plus 28 days notice and any unused vacation. He's probably on the beach.

BOB, stop being their piggy bank. Make some sort of ground rules. You are only responsible for your girlfriend and thats where all other business stops there. You are being too generous to them and if you keep it up, you will create a monster for yourself. Put a stop to it now. You send her cash to cover her expenses so there is no reason you have to invest in any other types of business ventures for anyone. Don't even take interest in any sobbing stories, they will never end. If you help once then the requests to help other people will never end. The day you will not provide, thats the day all your previous deed will be forgotten. My advice to you would be to stop listening to anything that doesn't concern your girlfriend's immediate interest.

good point.... and as far as i know I have followed to the letter...

I havent bought anything or given any money to anything or anyone that didnt directly involve my GF... for the house a water tank!!!.. so they dont run out of water..benefited her AND me when I am there, as well as others.. and the shower head.. because SHE complained about cold showers....plus i benefit!!!!! i hate cold showers....the pig thing isnt for the uncle its for my GF....

he has had pigs since I met her.....I never helped him with anything ...

the only thing anyone other than my GF has recieved from me is gifts for christmas when i came and I have bought a few odds and ends for her mother and sister.....little stuff. perfume...body and bath stuff.......

I actually am bringing a bunch of nice shirts( arrow) that a local store here has on clearance.for $5-$7 each!!! normally $45 !!!!!!! for the father and brother

Yes you are correct, I am aware that , I can be looked upon to "deliver" if i am not careful............I really think the father has too much pride to ask for anything, nor expect it.... and I think he would squash anyone else request except for my GF.........I can easily see that, he is happy she is happy and has a BF who gets her all the things she needs

the sister and brother now go to english class with my GF in santiago

i told my GF I would pay for that...but the father does!

I think i have a handle on how I interrelate...but i still welcome CONSTRUCTIVE criticism

What about asking your gf if her friends are into beauty supplies. Start off small by going to a wholesaler in NY or online and shipping it the DR or bringing it with you. If she's good, she can be the goto gal in her town.

hes not a stranger any more..

we met him maybe maybe a dozen times at the casino( over the course of maybe 3 months)..and we learned he sang in a group, and might play a club..so we took his number to go see him, and eventually saw him a few times outside the casino....after we exchanged numbers , she talks to him once in a while, maybe two or three times a week now....I dont have a problem with him...at present anyway ha ha ha.

next??????????

hey I live 3000 miles away from her now...I cant baby sit her...she will be faithfull or she wont...I have my money on she will at this point.

no innuendo/not implying anything.... just didn't know how he had become an acquaintance to both of you.

true, you can't baby sit; just keep eyes wide open.. only thing one can do.

Buy a pig in a poke

Definition: buy something without seeing it; buying something without knowing its inherent quality

Explanation: Used when talking about the negative aspects of not properly looking into something before buying it

Examples: You shouldn`t buy a house without thoroughly inspecting it. It is like buying a pig in a poke. - I don't know what I bought it, I just like to buy a pig in a poke every once in a while.

You may ofcourse change the saying to your liking as the sitution changes.:paranoid:
Happy farming.

ok slight update....

I saw the piglets..as well as met the uncles finally and gave my tid bit of economics of trying to make money on OTHER peoples thoughts(thiers in this case)

I feel they are simple people and they have a good family bond....I dont think there is any hanky panky trying to get the gringo to buy at a higher than normal price.

I told my GF about all the advice of the board...and of course she kinda takes it that WE dont trust her...she never gets mad at things like that...she gets hurt...she was willing to just forget the whole deal.

But I told her she should try it if she believes in her uncles advice....its to make her happy solely in my opinion.

well one day we are driving down the road this past weekend and low and behold a truck load of pigs is sitting on a drive on scale in front of this huge building. I can see its a wegh station similar to where I buy sand and gravel at home!

screech to a halt throw it in reverse and back to the guy running the scale.

we ask him is that for weighing how much the pigs weigh to sell them?

YES.....is the answer. so we ask how much are they paying for live pigs

his answer was exactly what I am looking for ...REAL information

they pay 50.5 pesos per kilogram

OK now I have some info

plus I had asked the uncle how much my GF 3 month old pig weighs. he said about 50KG.
but they are feeding that pig slowly, because it will be a breeder...when they feed the pigs for market they are much bigger at that age...so I say maybe the feeder pigs will be 70kg by the time they are a half month older AND are for sale to slaughter.

now the math if I sell to the slaughter house( knowing that I will get a better price when I sell to individuals that come to the uncles house to buy for consumption)

70kg( slight assumption they will be that big) X50.5 pesos per kilo= 3,535RD$

3,535 X 8= 28,280RD$

but her uncle had told her she could sell them for as much as 40,000 pesos...so maybe they will be bigger than I estimate...which is based on the size of her pig that will be a breeder at almost 3 months now and weighing about 50kilograms.

so if I add the pigs and their food(estimate10,000pesos) I get 18,000 RD$

add 2,000RD$ for unexpected costs=20,000RD$....leave us with an ESTIMATED ROI of about 8,280RD$....... so she will make 2,365RD$ per month on her little side interprise....with out much effort...now she only has to worry about the price falling from now and some pigs dying....but the kicker will be that when she sells to the consumers who show up at the uncles house to buy pigs...she will make MORE money than the example given

so as it stands now she has the money I told her if she wants go and do it..if she doesnt then the money stays in the bank...I will make no part in the decision.......bob

hello chris. There is always updates, some dont want the pigs to become a soap opera. You know she had 9 ....one older one (about 4 months) for future breeding( maybe another 3 months before that happens) and 8 piglets born in feb 06.
Well one of the 8 young ones died. Actually they all got sick right after they were weened off the sow. Then she had a huge falling out with the uncles , that i posted about in another thread. But now all are doing very good. the 7 young ones are growing very fast, and the breeder is looking very very good . As a matter of fact she bought some comida for the pigs today. last week she bought some medicine...so she seems to be in stride for taking care of them, now that the uncle doesnt any more.

one of the guys up here that i see at the hunting club where i run my dogs, breeds pigs, and i am getting info from him, that backs up what my GF has been telling me about her pigs and her plans...we should sell the 7 in another month and a half at about 200 plus lbs, maybe even 250 lbs each....if the prices hold we hope to get 50 pesos per kilo on the hoof.

take care......Ill give another update when something significant happens...

bob
