ok slight update....
I saw the piglets..as well as met the uncles finally and gave my tid bit of economics of trying to make money on OTHER peoples thoughts(thiers in this case)
I feel they are simple people and they have a good family bond....I dont think there is any hanky panky trying to get the gringo to buy at a higher than normal price.
I told my GF about all the advice of the board...and of course she kinda takes it that WE dont trust her...she never gets mad at things like that...she gets hurt...she was willing to just forget the whole deal.
But I told her she should try it if she believes in her uncles advice....its to make her happy solely in my opinion.
well one day we are driving down the road this past weekend and low and behold a truck load of pigs is sitting on a drive on scale in front of this huge building. I can see its a wegh station similar to where I buy sand and gravel at home!
screech to a halt throw it in reverse and back to the guy running the scale.
we ask him is that for weighing how much the pigs weigh to sell them?
YES.....is the answer. so we ask how much are they paying for live pigs
his answer was exactly what I am looking for ...REAL information
they pay 50.5 pesos per kilogram
OK now I have some info
plus I had asked the uncle how much my GF 3 month old pig weighs. he said about 50KG.
but they are feeding that pig slowly, because it will be a breeder...when they feed the pigs for market they are much bigger at that age...so I say maybe the feeder pigs will be 70kg by the time they are a half month older AND are for sale to slaughter.
now the math if I sell to the slaughter house( knowing that I will get a better price when I sell to individuals that come to the uncles house to buy for consumption)
70kg( slight assumption they will be that big) X50.5 pesos per kilo= 3,535RD$
3,535 X 8= 28,280RD$
but her uncle had told her she could sell them for as much as 40,000 pesos...so maybe they will be bigger than I estimate...which is based on the size of her pig that will be a breeder at almost 3 months now and weighing about 50kilograms.
so if I add the pigs and their food(estimate10,000pesos) I get 18,000 RD$
add 2,000RD$ for unexpected costs=20,000RD$....leave us with an ESTIMATED ROI of about 8,280RD$....... so she will make 2,365RD$ per month on her little side interprise....with out much effort...now she only has to worry about the price falling from now and some pigs dying....but the kicker will be that when she sells to the consumers who show up at the uncles house to buy pigs...she will make MORE money than the example given
so as it stands now she has the money I told her if she wants go and do it..if she doesnt then the money stays in the bank...I will make no part in the decision.......bob
