congratulations, you have a skill.,
The only way to stay in a marriage is to keep your mouth shut when you disagree. All this talk about open communication is a farce - you agree and keep your mouth shut. Then you have no problems with your wife. And that's the biggest waste of humanity there is folks.

I was married and then divorced. I don’t regret it at all. We are great friends. She helps me here in the DR. But I doubt I will again. I don’t get the people who get married a second or third time. If it doesn’t work the first time why keep trying.
Awe, great story Aarhus!

After 30 years of marriage i came home from work one day and all my chit was in the driveway, best thing that has ever happened to me.
Some are born free, others achieve freedom, and some have freedom thrust upon them. Either way it can be a blessing in disguise, a chance to reinvent yourself and your life. Good on you!

I feel the same amigo. 26 years together then we went our separate ways in 1999. No regrets other than the legal fees. No kids so the divorce was relatively easy, if divorces are ever easy. I enjoy having no responsibilities. Nothing self centred about it. It’s a wise person who knows their limitations.

Took us 13 years to start communicating after our divorce. She bought a very expensive dog for company. Always thought I’d be replaced by another man, not a dog. Go figure!

The lesson I’ve learned from this is I will never understand the female mind. Maybe that’s the way it’s meant to be.

The other thing I’ve learned is, that as single and divorced women get older, they need that marriage certificate more than men do. I’ve ended a few relationships because of that need. I’m not interested in marriage at my age.
I don't know how old you are, but at 69, I feel exactly the same way.

Unfortunately, both men's and women's expectations continue to rise while their attractiveness continues to decline as they get older.

As my old single Uncle Frank used to say,” I may not be handsome but I have money.” 🤣

Ben Franklin wrote an essay on the benefits of loving older, less attractive women. A good read but the last line I never forget. They are so grateful! 🤣

In fairness the same could probably be said for older less attractive men. I’m older, no George Clooney, still have hair on my head, everything still functions just more slowly, and I still enjoy the company of women of all ages. I’m happy with that.

It’ll be 75 next July NSP and still trying to figure out the female mind. I finally learned not to intentionally aggravate any of my remaining female friends. Don’t want them showing up at my funeral in a red dress!

I know plenty of people happily married many decades, some here must be too! I could name a few. Let’s hear from them please 😊.
I saw one posting on the first page of the thread, here's another (going 12 years now), and my wife's family has a tendency of being married long... My wife's sister going way past 20 years now, her father as well 20 past My dad and mom in fact divorced after 20+ years as they had a rough time in their 50s, but after five years, they are happily back together, now close to 80s... So for me, that does not really count, they just lost their heads for a while...

There is something to be said for a long-term relationship. I am just not sure what it is. As the historic rock and roll artist Rod Stewart said; "the next time I think about marriage, I am just going to find a woman I hate and buy her a house."

Going on 13 or 14 years ( I need to think about that 😁).
Couldn't post before as I was shocked, sitting on the floor with my arms wrapped around my knees, thinking that I had missed my life, as I could have been old, single and grumpy......... instead I am happily married 🤗🤗🤗.

To keep it DR related, I can add that we were married in the DR.
