I also like to stay stocked up on things that dont go bad. Toliet paper, paper towel, toothpaste and toothbrushes, razors and all sorts of things. The only problem with that is that everyone knows, when they run out they are at the door asking to "borrow" I need a special cabinet with a key only held by me.
My MIL was a firm believer in out-of-sight, out-ot-mind. She hid everything in her closet other than what was needed for the week. I would ask what she needed , and she would say coffee, sugar...etc. When she passed away my wife found 11 lbs of coffee in her closet.

We are going off the topic so I will try to steer it back. When I was younger in Ontario canada the license plate renewal was the same for everyone, end of February I think. Just like Dominicans the lineups would be blocks long at the local MTO offices. Putting off paying the government is something we all do. How many wait until the last minute to do our taxes?

Taxes are different because you can do them online with no effort. So yea, I wait till April 15 every year because I always owe. Given that I don't trust the Dominican delivery system, in person payment for the Marbete is a requirement. Hence I will do it early before January. The money is secondary to standing in line for an hour or 2.

I do everything as soon as possible, takes the pain away. Marbetes are a minor inconvenience and obtaining them just a small annoyance.
I was talking about an IRS tax extension. I usually renew my marbete in November. I don't think I've ever spent more than 5 minutes. It would probably take longer to do it online.

Before I started paying the utility bills on line, I'd avoid paying close to the due dates because it seemed like the entire city was waiting in line on those days! And for the cable bill, I would pay two months at a time because I really hated going to that office. Now, I just make sure to pay before the date, easy peasy

We pay the water bill and the cable bill yearly. Edenorte bills for us come around the 12th and 25th of the month. We have 6th on the 12th and 3 on the 25th. I usually pay them at Edenorte office several days after issue. Yes sometimes the line is long. I avoid the days the Bono or government subsidized pay.

Mine is much simpler. My bills come by email, I pay them within hours (sometimes minutes) of receiving them.

BTW, just so you know, the price for Marbetes has doubled for this year. 3000 instead of 1500.

Under the new Tax Modernization Law, the Government has announced a significant increase in the cost of vehicle registration for vehicle owners in the Dominican Republic. The vehicle circulation tax will double, going from RD$1,500 to RD$3,000 for vehicles more than five years old. In the case of vehicles less than five years old, the tax will be even higher, rising to RD$6,000.

This announcement was made by the Minister of Finance, Jochi Vicente, during his participation in the program "La Semanal con la Prensa", where he presented the details of the reform. This increase has generated concern among drivers and vehicle owners, since it represents a considerable economic burden for those who depend on their vehicles for daily activities.

The government justifies the increase as part of measures to modernise the tax system and improve tax collection, although some sectors have expressed their disagreement due to the impact it will have on citizens.

I don't believe the process has started yet, but no idea if it will apply this year. It shouldn't - the reform hasn't been passed yet. I don't expect it to not get passed.

I read that its for the next period. Since the new ones are not yet available it means in my mind that come November it will be double. Thats a great way to curb inflation.
