I guess so...
OK, here is a question from someone who is simply tooooo bashful to post!
When women ask about dating in the DR we get the answer that they can not do that or people will think they are cueros but yet AZB and Robert date women that have good jobs and visa blah blah. They say most tourists will never meet quality women so my question is, does having money and a visa and good job exclude these women from being thought of as cueros since they are not into it for the long term and are only dating.
I would say that having money and a job and the facility to travel could exclude women from being called a "cuero" because it removes the money aspect of it. Meaning that these women already have the money so when they are with a man they are with them because they like them, not because they need him.
Having said that, having money etc doesn't fully exclude a women from being a "cuero" it just makes it more acceptable. What do I mean? Well class plays a part in this. A woman with money who sleeps around or dates different men can be considered independent etc blah blah, not a cuero. Though she might be just that. A woman with no money will be considered a cuero for the same thing, because she has no money. She isn't of a certain class and for many, has no class. It's a simple distinction. I mean we look at girls who sleep with old men for gifts and money and say that the poor girl who does that is a prostitute and the rich girl from high society or from University who does that is just maintaining the status quo or keeping up with her lifestyle. Its a double standard based on money.
Still, some women are only interested in the visa, but it is the image of that "poor girl" trying to get her way to the states as opposed to the girl that has already been there that changes things.
As for dating in the DR, i'll be honest, it's not easy, especially if you are a foreigner coming in with a different mindset or preconceived notions of what "dating" is and should be.
I've been here a few years and still get confused as all hell at some of the sh*t girls say after the first date and what they define as a "relationship." Most of the time I'd rather keep a few girls "on lock" so I don't have to deal with any of that BS and that will mean that you have to learn the language. You can find some nice girls in SDQ, it's actually kind of easy. You can do the internet thing but best bet is to join a gym frequent a few places around the city and make friends with Dominicans that will eventually introduce you to some girls. Don't fall in love with the first girl you meet and remember that the type of girl you meet will depend on where you meet them. And if you will be here for four months that is a good amount of time to start meeting girls, especially if you come more than once.
And don't do long distance relationships. As they say here "Amores de lejos felices los cuatros..." or "Amores de lejos, Amores pendejos."
If you do long distance you might get a quick lesson in: Los Cuernos!!! :surprised
