Well, what can i say. Interesteing replies. :) As Rocky stated english is not my firts language (its my fourth language). My spanish is about as good (bad) as my english.

I am not looking for hookers and I wont pay for sex (It is something I am not ready to do and have never done). I really liked my stay in the Dominican Republic (two weeks) the only problem was that everyone wanted something from me - and always had a plan while taking to me. .

I am very bored with my life at the moment and just wanted to know if it is possible to handle the situation of being taken advantage of / (or you yourself taking advantage of others) if you move the DR considering the cultural and economical diffrences. (Women being the most important department). I am really mostly thinking of spending more time in the DR (like three or four months a year) and not about moving permanently.

If its not a good idea I wont spend more time in DR - no problem. I might buy a house in Spain or something instead, yes I am considering that too.

As to you guys who were offended by my last post I really was not trying to offend anyone nor insult all Dominicans.

Sorry I should have checked that last post for spelling mistakes before posting it.
(My english is not as poor as in that last post if I concentrate :))

By the way I have no Dominican friends, and if I meet a nice girl from Sweden (which might well happen) I wont bother finding a latina (although latinas are more beautiful in my opinion). I just want a break. I want something else than my boring life. I think a good idea would be to start spending some time in a more interesting country than Sweden. I want some new input in my life thats it.

Not to worry, Johannes, you do a good enough job to be understood.
The DR would be a definite change for you and could never leave you feeling bored.
The first step is to rent somewhere that you like in the country, polish up your Spanish skills, do things that interest you and meet normal people along the way.
That would entail avoiding tourist spots, as that's where you would meet all the "visa chicas".
You could still choose to live in or near a tourist town, but you would not be going to discos to meet women.
You would meet them in normal places, at their work, in a store, at the supermarket, in a guagua, at a local's beach, at a river swimming hole, at a typico, at a colmado, etc.

p.s to rephrase my question: How can I ever tell if a woman in the DR is really interested in ME. Considering the posts in this forum it seems likely "non working girls wont talk to me nor will they want to be seen with me, and the way of getting to know "decent" women is very different from the way I am used to (Sweden is very different I can tell you - with regards to my prior experiences my looks should not be a problem though (I hope)).

That is a good question.
It is near impossible to meet and date them, unless you live here.
No decent chica has any interest in dating a tourist who will be gone in two weeks.

Thanks for your help. Would three or four months be enough?
It would be a great start.
Obviously, the longer you live here, the more you perfect the lingo and the more you understand the culture, the better your chances of finding what you are looking for.

First thing you should do is start reading some of the posts by AZB.
He tells it "exactly" like is, despite what some of the less informed might say or feel they know about the DR. Just like me, AZB lives and works here and has done so for a number of years. We date girls that have good jobs, visas, cars, money, basically what you would consider "normal" in Sweden etc. Remember, 99% of posters on this board never date these type of girls. Horses for courses I guess ;)

You will find girls from great families, have jobs, can travel, don't need your money all over the country. Just avoid most of the tourist or expat areas as the numbers will be much lower. Consider Santo Domingo or Santiago, plus Punta Cana, lots of young professionals with great jobs living and working in Punta Cana these days.

If you not comfortable "walking and talking", chasing girls in shopping malls, bars, clubs etc, then look online. Use a site like badoo.com and create a profile in Spanish and have fun. Great way to start making friends online and building a network via MSN (Messenger).

Have fun!

Between the lines:

I would of course like to make Dominican friends aswell as have a good time and improve my spanish. (I am not only looking for women.

Being single, it is however a big drawback if I cant meet, socialize, talk to or date decent women. Then maybe I should go somewhere else.

Mayhap I should rent an apartment, study some spanish take up a few hobbies and see where it all leads.

If I still dont have any friends or know any women after four months I wont be back.. (Hopefully my spanish will have improved and I will have a tan.)

Even badoo doesn't have quality girls anymore, very few. the good classy badoo girls have been chased off the board by the stupid young tigres. Now you only have cute lesbo looking for action on badoo, the rest is taken over by the barrio girls now. as soon as the barrio (ghetto) girls join a certain webpage the classy girls move on.
Here is a solution for Johannes77.
If you don't want, on your face, hookers then stay away from touristy places like sosua and cabarete or even puerto plata. The good girls there don't talk to tourists and will not even be seen walking the streets.
You must move to santiago because santo domingo maybe a big move for you. Its for the big dogs so I suggest you start from santiago first. Rent an apartment form Hillbilly (respected member of this board). Then leave the rest to me. If you are presentable and act and behave with good manners, not to mention, carry a good sense of humor. You will do ok here. I will show you around here. Introduce you to good people and nice girls. if you are as good looking as you say you are then you will have no trouble finding a girl of your dreams. it so happens the cheap barrio girls will try to grab you first. they can be very aggressive. So better not settle for the first one who treats you like a king. have patience. You will find the right one sooner or later. maybe you will find more than one. I suggest, you keep them all and learn to juggle girls well so you don't get busted. Why even think about marrying? You are still very young. have fun and live a good life first before getting tied down to a family.

OK, here is a question from someone who is simply tooooo bashful to post! ;)

When women ask about dating in the DR we get the answer that they can not do that or people will think they are cueros but yet AZB and Robert date women that have good jobs and visa blah blah. They say most tourists will never meet quality women so my question is, does having money and a visa and good job exclude these women from being thought of as cueros since they are not into it for the long term and are only dating.

I guess so...

OK, here is a question from someone who is simply tooooo bashful to post! ;)

I would say that having money and a job and the facility to travel could exclude women from being called a "cuero" because it removes the money aspect of it. Meaning that these women already have the money so when they are with a man they are with them because they like them, not because they need him.

Having said that, having money etc doesn't fully exclude a women from being a "cuero" it just makes it more acceptable. What do I mean? Well class plays a part in this. A woman with money who sleeps around or dates different men can be considered independent etc blah blah, not a cuero. Though she might be just that. A woman with no money will be considered a cuero for the same thing, because she has no money. She isn't of a certain class and for many, has no class. It's a simple distinction. I mean we look at girls who sleep with old men for gifts and money and say that the poor girl who does that is a prostitute and the rich girl from high society or from University who does that is just maintaining the status quo or keeping up with her lifestyle. Its a double standard based on money.

Still, some women are only interested in the visa, but it is the image of that "poor girl" trying to get her way to the states as opposed to the girl that has already been there that changes things.

As for dating in the DR, i'll be honest, it's not easy, especially if you are a foreigner coming in with a different mindset or preconceived notions of what "dating" is and should be.

I've been here a few years and still get confused as all hell at some of the sh*t girls say after the first date and what they define as a "relationship." Most of the time I'd rather keep a few girls "on lock" so I don't have to deal with any of that BS and that will mean that you have to learn the language. You can find some nice girls in SDQ, it's actually kind of easy. You can do the internet thing but best bet is to join a gym frequent a few places around the city and make friends with Dominicans that will eventually introduce you to some girls. Don't fall in love with the first girl you meet and remember that the type of girl you meet will depend on where you meet them. And if you will be here for four months that is a good amount of time to start meeting girls, especially if you come more than once.

And don't do long distance relationships. As they say here "Amores de lejos felices los cuatros..." or "Amores de lejos, Amores pendejos."

If you do long distance you might get a quick lesson in: Los Cuernos!!! :surprised

Chris, its really not all that difficult to seperate a cuero (slut) from a classy decent women. I have seen cueros driving late model SUV and flashing money in santiago and sosua. Non of it is their's, it belongs to the pendejos (sucker) who is supporting them, an old sugar daddy. These girls can't buy or even rent class. They talk and dress like cueros and not to mention, their friends are still the same barrio girls.
A classy dominican will stand out from the rest like a diamond in dirt.

so AZB and Robert are "BIG DOGS" ?
they are the epitome of "GOOD LOOKING" ?
they have money, cars, houses, credit cards, etc. ?
who died and left these guys in charge of who's "quality" ?
most guys i've seen that live in the DR date mutts, wombats and trolls.

i've heard so much about Santiago from you guys i wonder what others have to say about it (truthfully).
i'm just a curious tourista. i'm not knocking anyone and wanted to pull AZB's chain

They got there by default, because of those very guys you know and mention who date the mutts.
You do not need to be in Santo Domingo or Santiago to run with the good crowd, but there is more selection.
The guys I know who have lived here for a long time and speak the lingo, manage to meet, as I do, fine fine women, despite us being based in a tourist town.

PS: If you have been in a tourist town disco more than once in the last year, you are a perfect candidate for mutts, and would have little to no chance of meeting the good ones.
