Let's compare Canada with the DR. Canada currently has 50,896 cases/1M - the DR has 37,488/1M. The death rate in Canada is 788/1M. In the DR, it's 384/1M. Looking at the death rate as a percentage of cases, the death rate among cases is 50% higher in Canada than in the DR. Today, Canada reported a record high number of cases - about 40% higher than the previous high. I don't think this is any time for Canada to be tooting it's horn.
I think there are several factors that have made Canada worse- Cold weather - people are inside - Covid spreads easier in close quarters, DR- people are outside. Most of Canada's deaths have been people over 70 years old. Canada had more old people per capita than the DR. Canada's death rate and infection rate is 1/4th of it's neighbour to the south. Another thing is Canada's statistics are far more accurate.

Whatever the explanation is, I think things will get worse for both - maybe not in severity of cases, but in how the governments will react. I give it 50/50 odds that restrictions and a curfew are coming back.

It isn't Canada's fault. The virus escaped from WIV in China which has the blame, and the Omicron variant is as contagious as the measles. they say. . Cloth facemasks are now practically useless. No vaccination kills it.

The bottom line is there is Nothing governments can do to stop it. Australia realized this, finally by admitting the restrictions do not stop CV19.

Cloth masks are little more than facial decorations. There’s no place for them in light of Omicron,’ doctor says

Emphasis on "cloth".
What is your facial covering of choice?
I'm wearing the medical masks (Humask), manufactured right here in Quebec.
They are the ones being handed out by all the clinics, the hospitals and the vaccination centers.
I figured if anybody is going to provide a good performer, they will.
I tie a knot in the ear loops to give a tighter fit.
I mean...who doesn't love a tighter fit?

And you throw it out and get a new one each and every time you go out and return home, correct? Worn correctly by really making it very tight to your face until it bruises your skin? If not, it is not that effective either. Only a genuine N95 mask seems to be "good enough" for Omicron.

I read the requirement for Canada. It is sufficiently vague.

The DR does not have a ready supply of such masks where I am, so I where "whatever" to satisfy the regulations.

No actually.
I tend to be keeping myself pretty close to home these days.
If I go out for a short (couple of hours) venture, I don't feel the need to throw out the mask. I don't wear it when walking around in non-crowded
outdoor places so I get a couple of good uses out of each one.
I wear it nice and tight but nowhere near tight enough to bruise the skin...Heaven forbid.
Having said all that...
It is true that medical face masks are becoming the new grocery bag refuse in the streets.
Get rid of one blight and along comes another.
Sigh...What's a person to do?
What facial covering do you prefer and what masks are readily available in the D.R.?

OK, so you use it incorrectly by re-using it according to experts.

Please don't say you are abstaining.
I wear whatever is available when I am required to. The style here is mostly a surgical mask like you see dentists wear so they don't spit on you, and there seem to be a few N95's with exit valves, probably fake inferior Chinese made, that are also sold. Many people also were some type of now useless cloth masks.

I find it funny that you pick and choose which numbers you want to believe.

If anything, the DR has way undercounted the number of cases which makes Canada look even worse in the percentage of deaths relative to the number of cases.
Everyone is way undercounting the number of people that get CV19. It is easier to keep control that way.

For those not as well informed as Windy....

It's the T cells that clobber Omicron..... not antibodies.

mRNA is strong on antibodies..... Sinovac strong on T & B cells

As - Yes Sky - Rep Dom doing as well as any place in the world right now--- below 5%, daily and 4 week average
Curious, how would you know even the most basic properties of the sinovac components unless you opened it up in your lab, ran it through your trusty HPLC and NMR. Who are you relying on here to verify what exactly is Sinovac chemically/molecularly?
