Street was pretty much closed to all vehicles last night, police cars at each end, and well, quite empty of everything really.....

it looks to me even cats and dogs are avoiding downtown these days !
Probably the cats and dogs don't like the smell of raw sewerage in the street either, or the new cobblestone sidewalk hurts their feet

So the police have been given instructions to keep that section closed despite the fact that the city decided to remove the barriers.

I believe the barriers were "removed" by peaceful protestors and the city has yet to replace them

Exactly, it's pure vandalism and an ugly way to protest something. Pretty stupid IMO.

A lot of businesses are being hurt big time as there are only a few businesses open and busy. Few people out and about at night. I guess everyone will hope for the winter season now, but I am not sure how many people from the subdivisions around town will venture to downtown to park and eat. Seems like a city in rapid decline at the moment.

I can't speak about cats, but my dog adores walking down the middle of the street, is fine with the new cobblestones, and is overjoyed at all the dead grass around the new palm trees.

Nah. The city dismantled them and sent them to the shop for a new coat of paint. Had a few pesos left in the sidewalk upgrade project apparently......

Good Lord. Why do you bother?

Yea, and so feh, already, to the whiners complaining about no biz bc of the barrier. There was no barrier tonight, and you still could have had 9 lanes of bowling from the Playerito corner to Calle Dr. Rosen. It's LOW SEASON, people. And Americans are terrified of zika. My sister was just on vacation in St.Kitts/Nevis and the staff in their hotel said that tourism is down there, as well, bc of those fears. Add the current horrific international climate of nowhere being safe, (as in ISIL bombs Baghdad?), don't blame bad biz on PC on the street closing. It's a bigger picture.

I sadly agree that things in Sosua will get much, much worse before it gets better. But it is my home, and I am sticking with it through thick and thin.
