Yuuuuuu know nussink...in my best german accent
I have a Caymen
I drive a Cayman because in my country 911's are $400000 plus.
I have serious problems with dropping that kind of cash on a car...even if i had it. That sort of money based on my principles ( of which i have few!!) is obscene. I have no problem dropping 80k-100k on a serious machine that i know will last me many many years.
I drive a cayman because it has serious muscle..enough for me. i dont particulalry car for the soft lines but then again if i want to impress a hot looking mama, leaving her drooling at the mouth, then this is the car to do it in. yes its a pussy magnet
Often people say those that can buy porsches shouldnt be concerned about the maintenance...why would you be , right??? Thats a a popular misconception. Wealthy people know exactly what things cost !!!!! Thats why they are wealthy

Wait you have a Cayman in Europe and now you want to buy another in the DR????? Man you must really like the Cayman.

Wouldn't a Boxster make more sense in DR???? I would think.

The price to own a Porsche like a Cayman in DR will be very very very expensive. It is not a Panamera or a Cayenne as you know. Owning a Porsche is not the hard part the up keep is the B*TCH!!!!

You are going to run into issues just changing a light bulb in DR and tires I do not even want to think about it. The dealership will NOT have parts just sitting around waiting for a customer to come in.

How many people in Santo Domingo you think can work on a mid engine car like a Cayman???? Have you ever change your oil or battery in your Cayman????

I am not saying by any means you should not drive your dream car in SD or DR, but you PAY DEARLY!!!

Do me a favor walk into Porsche SD and say I need a new battery and just wait for the PRICE for something as simple a swapping out a battery in a Cayman.

Remember you are in DR!!!! and a Cayman is very rare in this country.

I love my Porsche!

Don't care if it attracts attention....that's what it's for!

Never been hassled by the cops, AMET, anyone else in uniform......although sometimes I get a salute!

Love driving it on Dominican roads. No speed limits and plenty of open spaces.

Those people who say they wouldn't want to own a car like that in the DR obviously can't drive!

Enjoy your Cayman. Never driven one, but heard they are fantastic.

I drove different models of alfa romeo and porsche in GE and UK for six years. DR roads are not designed for performance vehicles.

Some of you need to get out more and spend time in the capital. Many high end, very visible cars and the owners never have an issue. Did you ever wonder why? When you know the answer to that, then you might have a better idea how things actually work here in the DR. Some of you need to get out of Sosua more often. jeje

As I said, I have a friend (expat) that rides around in a 458, 911 and in the not very distant future, a new Lambo.

Why? Why? Sosua, and PC work just fine for me. Any place but SD. First visit to SD, rented an Accura, and the rental co, yes, the rental co, stole it from my hotel parking lot.
SD? Right, when Jesus comes.

I dunno......... when traded my last car, I was looking at the Cayenne.

The F-M techs suggested the Jeep.... they thought the Porsche mtce was steep

I took their advice and am happy.... they say brake repairs are especially rich

Now, if you have a good German mechanic here.......but he's gone, right?

I think usual maintenance costs like oil changes and tune ups will not "ding" your wallet if you supply the parts. Most people dont drive really long miles here, modern cars dont require much maintenance.

Scratches and "dings" from minor moto collisions are unavoidable. So dont fall in love with your original paint.

The tires and front end will cost you big time. Will you never go through a puddle? or will you pray as you do that its not a missing manhole cover.

Comparing an 80,000 suv to an 80,000 sports car is idiotic.

Having that car in the DR could be a narcissism issue. The attention it will draw is 99.9% potential trouble.

For extra bonus round excitement drive it around Haiti with a license plate that reads 'NGO1'

I had this in front of me two weeks ago. Now, I know nothing about 'muscle cars' but I thought it was worth to take a picture.

When was the last time you drove from San Pedro to Bavaro?

Motoring heaven!

And Porsches are designed to cope with many types of roads. Vey few marques have the handling ability better than a modern Porsche, Lotus being one of them.

Porsche's suspensions are pretty robust. They can cope very well with the odd pothole. Run a little extra PSI in your tyres to protect your rims too. Run flats are a good investment.

But if you're familiar with the road you are driving on, you can have a LOT of fun here.

i have had my 911 porsche since 1 year, not one flat tire due to potholes, and that is driving cabarete puerto plata mostly, the steering is so direct, and the viewing angle so low, you can see the holes very well, and avoid them easily.

I'm sure it is, but where's the excitement without the odd switchback or two?. On a side note, I saw 2014 Panamera in the parking lot at work the other day. Peeked inside, and noticed it was equipped with an auto xmission. Should be against the law, if you ask me.

Hmmmm a porsche in the dr........

Only interaction I had was with a cayenne at the beach. Parked next to us and blasted music all day long...,.. chopo....
When came the time to leave, he was stuck in the sand !!!! Hehehehe.
My friend please give us a hand....... No way !!!! I hate ure music.......
I gave in anyway, and pulled him out with my hilux.......

On another note, I used a cayenne in a restaurant I worked for ( u know buisness is goimg well when the service car is a cayenne !!! Even in switzerland.....). I loved the part where the suspensions lower down when u drive fast on motorway.

But a porsche is really about GT3 or 4.......

They have to sell 'em to 'Mericans.........

i forgot....

shifting gears is hard work for Americans. now even using a tv remote has become an onerous, backbreaking task, so tv sets are now being offered with technologies to recognize voice commands.

There is an old saying "if you have to ask than you can't afford it". I am sure you probably can but if you are familiar with the costs back home than you won't be surprised here. I would think the labor end would be in line but any parts you might need to replace could be costly. It is a beautiful vehicle but in the DR you are better off to stick with a Japanese one, such as, Mitsubishi or Toyota. I would buy a vehicle where you don't have to find a dealer to bring it to. These are much easier to maintain. Driving a Porche here is like having a sign on the car that reads: I am wealthy, follow me home and rob me. Personally, I would buy something that does not stand out.

Regarding your first sentence '...if you have to ask etc etc" I patently disagree. I am very comfortable financially ..i believe that i am wealthy. I have friends who are inordinately wealthy...with plenty of cash to spare. Every one of them and me included can tell you what every single thing they ever purchased cost them. We always ask ; HOW MUCH?" Not because we cant afford it, but because we are assessing the value of that item agains its actual cost. Its why they are rich...because they are watching their monayyyy!!!
Yes i can afford a Cayman, yes i can afford maintenance of 8-12k a year. However, by asking i can decide if i want to pay that, i like to know upfront ...i.e is it worth it?. I dont mind paying money for a new brake kit ; valued at $2 - $3000 ..... i might be cool with that... then i have to pay import tax on top....Im not cool with that. Thats why i ask what things REALLY COST
