I have read a lot of lovemedo posts not just in this thread but in others as well. Some of the things he state seems like he is an ODD dude. Maybe he is wealthy but he talks different then many people I know who have very comfortable lifestyle.

My favorite statement is "I have wealthy friends and they have money to spare" Its ODD wealthy people have money to spare LOL!!!!!!

Well at least quote me correctly...i believe i wrote;
" I have friends who are inordinately wealthy...with plenty of cash to spare".

Better to be odd than have difficulty with with written comprehension...or as they refer to people like this on the street; (a dumbass)
Cum on man read the OP's posts....dat wud be me, is dat mo' simple enuff for u, me want u 2 unda stand me post....lol
Hey relax dude, i'm not odd, i must say that i do purposefully inject a lot of humor into my posts for fun, it's more entertaining don't you think.....???? It is true that people, according to the DSM-V who are diagnosed as 'dumbasses' will completely miss ingrained, quirky humor because their IQ is substantially lower than 90. people like youself. My command of the English lexicon is strong, please don't blame me because you are unable to see the humor within my posts...blame your parents

Used to street race two or three hundred years ago (or so it seems). Used a 1970 Skylark GS Stage II with completely reworked innards. It was fun, until people started getting seriously hurt, and the police started paying attention.

A "standard issue" Model S can get to 60mph off the line in 5.9 seconds. The performance version can do the same in 3.2, which is the same speed as a Z06 Corvette manual.

I have friends with the traditional European toys, and they all talk about Tesla. It hardly depreciates in value, has an unlimited miles warranty, can clock 120 without breaking a sweat and go up to 140, and Uncle Sam is more than happy to pick up $7,500 of the cost in tax credits.

And it costs about $1.50 to "refuel," lol.

I am not knocking anything about Tesla I think it the Model S is an incredible invention. I walked into a Tesla store at the mall in Oak Brook IL and was totally impress by the car. It is a great car for a SMALL market of people not the masses. I do not like paying for gas, but I LOVE once it is in my car.

I do not do hybrids or electric cars because I am old fashion like my grandfathers LOL!!! but I like them. One of my favorite cars in the world is a Toyota Prius LOL, but my love for the Prius is weird like my favorite place in the world to be is Minnesota USA. I love Minnesota.

I hope you enjoy your new purchase and drive it in good health my thing is the 100K plus price tag but it you are the type of person to invest that kind of money more power to you. I just can't see my owing a car with a 100K price tag.

I hope I know you DRob in 2025 because I am curious to see how the 100K investment is going after a decade pass by.

BTW If you are driving your QUIET Tesla down an Atlanta road and you hear what sounds like an earthquake and you see something approaching you FAST with "White Sox" vanity plates down worry it is just my HEMI!!!!

Do you have any idea what the word "ODD" means???? LOL!!!! It is not a negative word. Some of the best people I ever met in the world were odd. Read you own post again " I do purposefully inject a lot of humor into my posts for fun" what do you call this kind of behavior??? It is not normal because majority of people do not inject humor for fun. Odd people do these type of things.

ODD: different from what is usual or expected. Does this sound like your posts????

You see how funny LIFE works LOL!!! You are trying to insult me about comprehension and you do not even know the meaning of a simple word like "odd"

BTW I will try harder to see the humor in your posts. Also my parents are pretty odd people themselves. My mother is African American and she listens to country music and father is Puerto Rican and he listen to bands like Earth Wind and Fire and Frankie Beverly and Maze.

Yes, JMB was talking car talk and you had to go personal and mean spirited with it. Further.. usually a guy who brags about having a lot of "wealth" is in fact lacking in that horsepower department.

I didn't read the whole thread, but there's something I've learned about owning german cars:

- Never, ever, take it to the dealership. They are as good as any other mechanic, and many times they are even worse. I've known some guys who used to work there (which I met while they still worked at Autogermanica) who told me they don't get real trainning from the dealership, they are as good as their previous knowledge allows them to be.
- You can buy parts at the dealeship, but they tend to be very expensive there (3X, 4X the online price). And I've even caught them selling non-original parts. To be safe, buy online.
- There are plenty of qualified mechanics in SD who know a lot about german cars (mainly Posrche, BMW, MB, VW, AUDI) who won't overcharge you for labor. Get a hold on one of their mechanics and suggest some work outside of their work hours. And you can even find some who go to your house and work there (so you can keep an eye on what they're doing, PM me if you're interested).

You would be safer driving a Porsche than a 1993 Toyota Tercel. It is assumed that at that level you are "connected" and carry a firearm. The poor folks aren't going to take a chance.

I think that you are fine driving whatever you would like here in the DR.

If you are talking about Lotus, have you seen their numbers recently?

They may be doing well at the moment but they are basically fiddling around with a 15yo design - the Elise - they need something brand new & soon. THAT costs real money.

To think that in the mid 80s they were challenging Ferrari & Porsche

a real shame

Prefer to invest my money into a nice home with an ocean view in a gated community. There I can live as wealthy as I want and no one sees it, or gets in, unless I want them to. Out in public, well, personally, I'm much more careful. At least that's my opinion and I'm Latino and have lived in several Latin American countries. The ancillary problems may just cost you a whole lot more than the maintenance on the vehicle. You have been forewarned by several on this thread. But, as stated, it's your life, do as you wish.

Most supercar owners in the DR already have luxury homes on the beach.

People that keep going on about the crime related problems your going to have have absolutely no idea how the DR works.

Go and ask the Porsche, Ferrari, Bentley etc owners if they have had any issues, then get back to me.

How many successful, smart, assimilated gringos with businesses that do US$1 million+ per year do you know in the DR?

Sorry but the DR is not that poor. Dis functional ... perhaps , but in comparison to most parts of the world its not that poor.

Criminals prey on the weak. If you are truly wealthy and can afford something high end it is assumed that you are connected and not someone to mess with. A foreigner living in 80k house in a foreigner north coast ghetto, will have problems driving a nice car to poor areas but if you live in a wealthy area and associate with respectable folks you can drive what you want here. Our parking lot is full of Mercs, BMW, Tahoes a Maserati and I have yet to hear of anybody having a problem. We dont have ahigh end vehicle right now. But thats because I dont have the expendable income to justify it. I dont hate on those around me that do.

No one is hating on anyone for buying a high end car or living how they want. This is a forum where people offer their opinions. They are just that, opinions. The value in the forum is the varied opinions based on different life experiences. That's not hate, that's caring enough to even offer the opinion. It's always good to hear both sides, and everything in between.

This is what I always assumed. The loser thieves figure you must be someone important to have such an expensive car therefore they are scared to mess with them.
