I see you edited out my 1,000 a day statement
Not sure if that was directed at me but perhaps its a tech issue.
I don't usually edit people's post when leaving a reply unless
its one of those super long one's like Frank posts sometimes.

Here's what I see on my screen..

That's what is needed - to curtail the case increases and sadly - that calls for tighter adherence to the protocol
The distancing, the travel restrictions, the curfew

I don't like it any more than you do....

We here had too much too soon -- just like some of the states in the US
and we are paying the price ....

Europe is a good example for us here.. not the Home of the Brave....
============================================================

My friend says it well here - to quote him ~~~~~~

All the signals are very bad and especially in the capital and Santaigo where hospitals are filling up quickly with cases and intensive care too.

I wrote that we could expect this after the crazy phase 1 opening and we could easily see 1000 plus cases per day now with enough tests.

With an election coming up it will only get worse.

We are heading in the wrong direction like all of the Americas except Canada and Costa Rica. We couldn't take the pain and the virus is now thriving in conditions of high mobility and places here where social distancing is being ignored.

We are entering the 'selfish phase' where we people do what they like until they realize the severe consequences on society, and then they will simply have to clamp down on mobility and self distancing in all its forms again.

It so sad that DR didn't follow the proven routes of Asia, Europe (except basket case Sweden) and the NE states such as NY and NJ, to take the pain until the virus was sufficiently supressed and open up slowly and regain some level of normality.
Unfortunately this IS NOT ABOUT SAVING LIVES.
This is about the PLD holding on to power and
stealing as much money as they can under this
SOE. If any of you think otherwise, I almost feel
sorry for you. Saving lives? Oh yeah, why don't
they start by putting stop signs at intersections?
Saving lives? Why did the Minister of Health recently
speak out due to the FACT they were barely included
in the new government budget to recieve funds in order
to help "save lives" and fight this virus? ITS A JOKE and
YOU SIR ARE THE PUNCH LINE.

HOSPITALS IN CRISIS

https://listindiario.com/la-republica/2 … e-santiago

Clinics and hospitals in Santiago and other Cibao provinces continue to be crowded with patients with coronavirus symptoms.

Meanwhile, doctors say that the Intensive Care units of those centers have rebounded their ability to welcome patients with their own suspicions of Covid-19.

The doctor Daniel Rivera, president of the Board of Directors of the Clínica Unión Médica del Norte de Santiago, said that it was thought that with the high temperature, the levels of Covid-19 would decrease, but this has not been the case. He indicated that the trend remains the same as that of the month of March, which he considers "worrying".

Rivera commented that Covid-19 and mortality were thought to affect older people more.

Likewise, it indicated that many of the cases that are attended in that health center correspond to people between the ages of 41 to 60 years, which indicates that the oldest population is not the most affected.

On her side, the infectologist Margarita Santana, from the Unión Médica clinic, appealed to people to comply with established health protocols.

He stressed that it is important to wear masks, maintain physical distance and maintain hygiene, such as constant hand washing.

Mr AE’s oldest brother had some breathing difficulties two days ago. He was taken to three different hospitals in Santo Domingo, and all three turned him away saying they were full and had no beds available. 😳 No testing offered, nothing. He ended up going home.

that's scary. This Govt and the new one needs to ensure healthcare is available for those who need it. Especially if the Govt is going to declare an epidemic countywide. Most of us knew he hospitals wouldn't be able to cope. The numbers of infected keep rising day after day.

Private, I didn’t ask which, but I know when my mother-in-law was ill they took her to Clinica Abreu.

How is he now?

Not getting worse, seems a little better. He’s diabetic and has other health issues, so it’s worrisome

Agreed, scary. It’s precisely what I feared when we decided to take a ferry flight. I thought I had overreacted until I heard this.

Very much needed...

we should be placing bets on when the first 1,000 case day arrives
We should also pray that the 1000 number arrives with the new president in office.
It is a terrible situation for any president, anywhere, to manage a crisis and at the same time to think about the voting outcome. To manage death and the circus at the same time... I wouldn't like to be at the Palacio.

The 1,000/day prediction might come true - way too soon !

Block flights ?? not sure
But the attraction might fade....

I wish I could see a bright spot on the horizon but the next 2 weeks could be problematic

I guess (hope!) the beach rule will change the 1.7. if they really open up for traveling...
My understanding is that Tonchi was talking about going to the beach now... 🤷‍♂️
I have gone to beach several times. No problems. The hotel manager where I live called cestur (after the incident) and they told her, 4pm is the closure, and 3pm on Sundays. Yesterday,,Sunday they ran everyone off at 3. The point is simple. They do what they want. There is no consistently, like say a law, to guide them. They dont post the rules for people to follow. And nice people not trying to break any laws, get swept up and taken to Fruisa station for ZERO reason. Its just plain stupidity.

From what I've been hearing the past two days.
After the elections the new government will be
looking at tightening the restrictions (as a form of punishment)
because people are not doing what they've been
told to do. This includes closing down all non-essential
businesses again and adding more hours to the curfew.
Wont happen.. Airlines are making real plans to fly. They would have riots they can not afford and they know it

Here is an accurate description in vivid terms regarding CV19. It is here to stay.

“I don’t see this slowing down for the summer or into the fall,” Michael Osterholm, the director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “I think this is more like a forest fire,” he added. “I think that wherever there’s wood to burn, this fire is going to burn it.”
