There was a Jovenel Moïse as the image created by the opposition (and which greatly jeopardize his rule during the last few of years) and the Jovenel Moïse as he truly was.
Haiti lost one of its greatest men, one whose economic policies would had created during the next 20 to 30 years a different Haiti with an industry to speak of, tourism, much more active commerce, a growing middle class. With his death, all of that is in jeopardy and hopefully Haiti continues down the path already estsblished. The problem with Haiti is that there are too many people that are easily overtaken by the opposition and rather than seeing the salvation with current pain, prefer to reduce the current pain for what is, basically, an uncertain future. Too many people that simply doesn't understand how things truly work.
The real motives for this barbaric act is still to be determined, but Haiti lost a leader with a good head on his shoulders and the heart in the right place, who truly wanted the best for his country even if many thought the complete opposite. Eventually, Haiti will look back and see it, and only then will begin to see the grave error that was done early today and the horrible way the Haitian society began to treat his rule.
Haiti is not an easy country to govern and the only way it will get out of the hole it's in is if the leaders are unwavering, determined, and strong willed. Otherwise you will be trampled and turned into a pulp. Unfortunately for him, the opposition got the upper hand on his image and did great damage in later years. They were not able to trample and turn him into a pulp, but they certainly tried and gained partial success in destroying his image.
May Jovenel Moïse rest in peace and Haiti learn to see people as they truly are and not a distorted image of themselves.
