Now about saying anyting other then Have a great day - No way baby..... Even if it is raining buckets, you still have to have a great day.........

The clean up continues. There is still lots of debris around, lots of mud but crews are out cleaning, trucks are hauling junk away.......... We have been a bit hampered by additional rain and I am sure (thanks to Grahame ) that more is on the way!

Now...............
................................Have a great day.

Hi
I have just discovered this board because I have friends that just arrived on Sunday to Puerto Plata for their first ever Caribbean vacation. After reading this board I am worried about them as I haven't received any e-mails from them yet. Could it be possible they have no power at their resort? I hope they arrived safely. They were to be staying at the Bahia Principe San Jaun I believe. Hope the weather improves for everyone!
Thanks.

Hey, They are on HOLIDAY for goodness sakes!!!

They arrived mid afternoon (presumably), had to travel 1 hour 30 minutes to Rio San Juan, get settled into an hotel & then find a bit of time to RELAX!!! Today is only TUESDAY & it is just 10.22 our time!! That's less than 48 hours in the country & you are expecting e-mail contact???? This is the Caribbean where Manana is the 'keyword'!!

That would be a tight schedule for sending you an e-mail under normal circumstances but with all the bad weather around it is just too much to expect an immediate e-mail - maybe the 'phone lines are down; maybe the computer area (if the hotel has one) got washed out; maybe they are just on the beach chilling (seems like a good word to use this morning due to the cold around!!) out!

Start worrying if you haven't heard by Thursday or Friday!! ~ Grahame.
(Sorry to hijack this thread 'planner' - move it to another forum if you so prefer!)

Wow, Not quite the response I was expecting. I have their 4 and 6 year old children with me for the week and they are anxiously awaiting an e-mail from Mom and Dad. She had palnned on trying to e-mail yesterday. Of course no one anticipated the events of the past few days. Sorry for wasting your time.

If you're concerned why don't you contact the hotel? That way you'll discover if the phone line is out, won't you? I'm sure the parents of the 2 children left the phone & fax numbers and email address of the hotel with you.;)

And if they didn't try 1-809- 226-1590 for phone, and 1-809- 226-1994 for fax. Email you might not get a speedy response to, but you could try info.sanjuan@bahia-principe.com When you call the hotel don't worry if you don't speak Spanish - they'll have people who speak English.

Once again, sorry planner, for going off the weather issue to deal with a matter that could have been solved by the poster using their telephone.

I wonder if I am the only one having problems with this site? I tried to post a few times and it is just not working.

So, lets try again.... Today we are mostly overcast and a bit cooler then normal. We've had a bit of rain today as well. Hopefully this will clear away soon as it really isn't normal for this time of year.

Hamneggs - sorry you are worried about your friends. I've heard of no big problems out that way so don't worry. It is a good idea just to try calling the hotel.....

Have a great day.

Nope it isn't normal. I have made a call to the head honcho and I've been promised better weather soon!

The golf course in Playa Dorada is about 20 to 25 minutes (depends who's driving) to the RIU complex.

See you soon.

And about 45 minutes to the more challenging, less expensive course at Santiago. Three of us go down there most weekends so if your 'Boss' allows (assuming you are bringing one with you??), & you want to be pocked up from the hotel, just say the word & we'll see what we can arrange! ~ Grahame.

Another time the system is playing up!! Made a post (as above) posted it & NOTHING got posted. Checked it 3 times, closed the thread & started again & my post was still not showing. As I had copied the post, I re-started the reply, pasted it & then submitted - Guess what???? The original post was now showing as posted!!

What's up Robert, rain at Puerto Plata got into the telephone lines between here & there or is my system going wonky?:cheeky: ? Do I need to clear some cookies somewhere (especially in Mozilla or IE)??:eek:gre:

Advice to anyone having similar posting problems at the moment - copy your post before you try to 'Submit' as it saves you having to rethink & retype the whole thing if the 'Posting' gets screwed up!:tired: ! ~ Grahame

Hmmm. now (3 minutes max after spotting a mistake above) I can't get in to edit my post!!@

What I wanted to edit was ..........
(That should of course be 'Picked up' above ...... not 'poked up' which I am reliably informed means something completely different!! G.)

Wednesday March 28

I checked out the sites that Bushbaby suggested and based on those I will prognosticate today............LOL

Looks like a bit better day then we have had in some time! While it is fairly clear off to the east, normally where our weather comes from, we do have some ugly stuff from the north west - where our weather is actually coming from lately! It is 83F right now and there is no breeze at all and it is humid out.

I do believe we will get some more rain later on today but we should have some sunny breaks too.

For all of you coming on vacation - I am doing my very best to get you some better weather! Keep your fingers crosssed - this is not normal for us this time of year. WE are trying to make it go away!

Grahame - I am having the same problems you are with the system. And lets take the golf talk to PM.............thanks honey.

Have a great day!

Good morning, well we are still WET! We are overcast with periods of heavy rain. I have looked at the satellite shots and it looks like it should clear out but your guess is as good as mine these days.

We had rain on and off all day yesterday and last night too. Take your umbrella, wear your wellies and have fun anyway.

Have a great day.

Rain is good for you!

SO when is the rainy season in Sosua exactly?
It peed down when I got here one November. It peed down for most of the following spring. It was wet this autumn and it peed down in November again. It also seems to be peeing down all the time now. I am English so I don't mind endless, mind-numbing, grey, miserable rain, but it must pee you off if you are here for just 2 wet expensive holiday weeks.
Surely there is somebody I can slip a couple of thousand pesos to make it stop raining when my mum comes over in a few weeks?
Let me know.

Friday March 30

Good morning - First the good news - it is not raining. Now the not so good news - it is still overcast. But it isn't raining.......... yeah.

Let's hope this is the start of the "clearing" I keep hearing about. It is 81F right now, humid and we have no breeze at all.

Dear FR3: I have been offered chocolate, newspapers, school supplies but you are the first to offer cash. Let me see what I can do for you......LOL Rainy season - not sure we can pin that down anymore. Weather patterns keep changing. It isn't normal to get this amount of rain in March! Maybe April will be extra dry to make up for it - who the heck knows.........

Have a great day.

Wow, the last day of March already. Once again I checked the sattelite and it looks pretty clear to me. BUT we are once again under cloudcover! Let's hope this clears out this morning to make way for the sunshine which I know is trying to break through. It is 82F and we have no breeze again.

Yesterday we did have some clearing and some afternoon sunny breaks!

Have a great day.

Sunday April 1

The good news is it isn't raining. The bad news - it still isn't sunny out. We are overcast once again. It is a touch cooler only about 79F with a light breeze right now.

Ever since Bushbaby put the satelite links on this thread I have been checking them out. I swear that they look pretty clear most of the time. So where is our sunshine??? I think maybe Bushbaby has it.

My fingers are crossed that this weather clears before the upcoming holiday weekend. We have enough issues here during Semana Santa (Easter) without rain storms.

Have a great day.
