Don't worry about it. The form is basically for those who have their SSA checked deposited in a foreign account. You need to fill out that form every two years so that they know you are still alive.

Question : do you think this ALL came from the fact that at one point you voluntarily informed SSA that you live abroad ?
You missed the main point of my post: Bewildering and inefficient reduncy in the SSA system. Three SSA entities in three different physical locations have asked me for the same information. As to your specific point, when I enrolled in SSA when I was 65, I read documentation on the status off SSA recipients residing in foreign countries. Nothing that I read suggested issues or problems and, therefore, no reason to be secretive about the fact of being an ex-pat. Further, if I chose, SSA will permit me to receive my SSA payment directly to the D.R. However, I receive it in the U.S. and my official SSA physical address is in the U.S.

Does anyone here think that SSA follows people around to see where they live? Of course the letter came from registering an address in the DR. It will probably mean little, but who needs the aggravation. Case in point avoid the US Embassy like the Plague.............

Indeed, I registered with a program whose name I forgot: a program from the embassy that "keeps you informed." You are correct. By all means, this is a "double edged sword." Talk about snooping and other nefarious activities, it appears that the jury is still out around the big brouhaha that the state department caused when it said that African-Americans were in danger of being accosted here by the Dominican authorities . . . Was the warning real or a fabrication? As to the latter, this thread would now be off-topic. Just sayin' The original reason for his post? Now closed and resolved.

I registered my DR address with the US Embassy.

No letters from Social Security to prove I am alive and no interruption of Social Security for me.

Do you receive Social Security payments directly to a DR bank?

You registered in 2003. :You were not collecting SS in 2003, correct? Try contacting them now with your information and see what happens................

So Social Security doesn't know that I already registered? Cool!
Or it has nothing to do with it at all.

Why would I bother contacting them with information they already had?

If you use the Direct Express debit card, as I do, you need to call the card company every 6 months to prove that you are indeed alive... then when I use my bank card I go inside to a teller at Popular bank and withdraw.. And for you using Direct Express they have a department called Fraud Prevention, and these people work for the state department and are very helpful with any problem that might come up..............

Not to go too far off topic, do you withdraw dollars or pesos? Does Popular charge any fee for the transaction? Thanks!

This is another way to collect your SS benefits other than Direct doposits to your bank.. It works anywhere in the World and you DO NOT have to call every six months or any other time to collect your benefits. It works well..............

Try reading the link I provided. And it works well here for sure. The only downside if you call it a downside is outside of the US there is a 3% surcharge.............You can change to the card either online in your My SSA or by calling. Again read the info I supplied..............
