I just hope we don't end up with THIS, if and when the new Owner takes over ..

If it is a prosperous venue, that is all investors are concerned about. I speak first hand.....on investing that is.

I just talked to someone I know who works at Rocky's Aqua in Connecticut. Rocky left for the DR today alone. I know he already has a Dominican lawyer. Can we please drop the rumor that he's bringing an American lawyer with him?

Luca Brasi instead?????

With the same staff and management carried over. Who wants to invest in leftovers? Discounted price if you take on the old employees. Please. There is a reason only some fall for this maneuver. You are better off in buying that bridge in Brooklyn, US of A.

Please, again? Rocky's didn't fail, wasn't failing, but nor was it getting rich. And neither did O'Shay's. The north coast have lost all of their 7 or 8 all-inclusive's. And the price to fly into POP these last few years has become almost astronomical. The south coast--Punta Cana in particular--is where nearly all of the influx of tourists are coming these days--and will continue to come unless more all-inclusives start getting built, re-built, and begin moving back to the north coast...and the airfare prices to POP need to come down significantly.

The issue with Rocky's & O'shay's has to do with a contract issue between Big Frank & Rocky, and that will be decided by a court of law.

It was decided by a Court of Law, after two years in the Courts. Who do you think closed the place up, the Boy scouts?

I live in NJ and hardly know anyone who has ever hit the north coast only a few. I talk it up a lot as I am in the hospitality industry. I got lucky by choosing to go to an all inclusive in playa dorado my first trip to the DR. I discovered Cabarete through a Dominican co worker from Puerto Plata. It definitely needs to be marketed better but that is a whole other post.
I hope all works out for everyone involved from Big Frank, Rocky, Frank12 and the employees. Personally I am one of the crazy ones who dream of opening up a bar/restaurant on a beach. I had long talks last time down with Rocky regarding it, not necessarily his place but in general. I am 10 years or so from retirement. I thought him carrying over the old staff was a smart move on his part coming in from the State's and keeping continuity. This is coming from someone who is in upper management with over 30 years experience, who also has totally cleaned house management wise of establishments I have taken over. I am going through the process right now as I just began a new job 2 weeks ago as a general manager.

Newsflash.....a business that is just "breaking even" is a failing business. This is my free tidbit for the evening.

You would be better served investing in mutual funds for the long term, rather than a seaside drinking establishment within a foreign country. Time and experience have proven this to be truer than not. Of course those with personal interests, whether on one side or the other of the bar slab will be contrarian to this advice.

Was this not the north coast establishment that had homeless persons bathing in it's restrooms, and kitchen staff cleaning such restrooms in full view of seated paying customers? What wonder.

End rant? Lol

Maybe we should shelve this until someone has meaningful and pertinent facts on the situation. Or better yet, let their 'business' be their 'business'. Always fun and speculation here. Gotta love it.

Just to give everyone a heads up about what's going on without taking sides, and keeping things honest and real, here is what i can add so far...

1. The court process is going to be long and arduous. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs a reality check.

2. Rocky has decided to pay all the staff through this process. He doesn't have to. He wants to. He had a meeting this morning with the staff and told them.

3. Big Frank is a great guy. And so is Rocky. Both are good people, and successful businessmen. What's going on between them has to do with a contract issue. Nothing more.

4. Rocky didn't come down with lawyers from the USA. No idea where or how that started.

5. There will be a lot of Haters jumping in here and adding stuff, but i have no idea why? Anyone who knows both men, and know are staff, would have no reason to hate anyone.

6. The staff are great people. They're Family. Nelcida, Raffa, Maria, Miguelina, Cache have all been there 15-years. 15yrs!! Who else in Cabarete has had staff that long? Why would it be good to have gotten rid of them--like some people here have suggested?

The waitresses, bartender, & Kitchen staff have worked 15-Superbowl and St. Patricks day parties, year after year--never calling in sick, never taking a leave of absence. These are good, loyal, honest people. Hard working people. They're like my family. We have worked together for 11-years. What sense would it have made to fire them and hire new staff---new staff who would not understand the system, not have the proper training, not have a good long history, or be able to handle several tables at once.

I don't understand why some people on here--who have never frequented O'shay's or Rocky's, would want to project their negativity and hate on good honest people?

I understand Sky's perspective. He's Big Frank's good friend of 40yrs. He's a good guy, looking out for the best interest of his good friend--whose my good friend as well. I get that. But the other people here who have never stepped into O'Shay's or Rocky's even once, and yet, throwing their hate here...I'm sorry, that doesn't make sense.

Dov, I agree with you 100%. I misspoke earlier, 5 of our staff members have actually been there for 17-years now. 17yrs! Can you imagine?

In 11-yrs of working with them, their bank has never been off. They have always shown up to work on time--even during category-5 hurricanes! We have been through numerous hurricanes together. it's incredible. These are hard workers. These are parents of course, some of them are grandparents now. Working their bones to death. I have worked in the service industry for 38yrs. I have never worked with this amount of devoted, loyal people before anywhere in the world.

To have staff stay with you this long is almost unheard of in the service industry.

Reaaly, has there been a CAT five hurricane on the north coast? In the past twenty five years Jeanne (Category 1). 16 September 2004. East Coast, Samana and Puerto Plata. Very small brush last year
