Shipped a Vehicle

Just price the 20 ft and the 40 ft.... thats what the car will cost - the premium for the 40 ft.

RoRo. .. has a lot of salt too.........

I looked at it but w/ the FL drive/ship and the ease of NJ loading..... no contest.

You may need a flatbed truck to boost the car up to the container unless somehow you get it on to a dock..... they load at dock height (mine did) but I think some companies will drop it off at your house..... on the ground or not? Can't say.

The vehicle has arrived at the Port of Miami.

Next step is to Fedex the Title to the shipper along with a $60.00 check for photos of the vehicle and to run the necessary checks to make sure the VIN is valid, check to make sure the vehicle is not listed on a database as being reported stolen, etc.

From there I will receive the invoice/bill of lading and the cost to transport as well as what carrier and what day it will leave for the DR.

So:

5/19/2013 Vehicle arrives at the Port. Port fee paperwork and photos ($60.00)

The vehicle has cleared all necessary inspections and is now ready to be loaded onto the boat headed for the Dominican Republic.

So:

5/17/2013 Vehicle loaded onto a car carrier and enroute to the Port of Miami ($475.00)
5/19/2013 Vehicle arrives at the Port. Port fee paperwork and photos ($60.00)
5/23/2013 Vehicle clears all necessary inspections at the Port of Miami.
5/24/2013 Vehicle will be loaded onto a vessel and prepared for transport.
5/25/2013 Vehicle is scheduled to leave the Port of Miami. (estimated sailing time to the DR (Haina) is 3 days).

Payment for transportation will be due after the vehicle discharges in Haina.

Whoa! I'm already mad and this isnt even my car. Why should one expect to have their car vandalized?
I have countless friends and relatives that have shipped cars but I dont know the details of their transactions.
My thought process says Hell NO and I would not ship a car here just to avoid letting them win and me bursting an artery.

Much like the three hour tour on the old 60's show Gilligan's Island, the vessel carrying my vehicle arrived in port late Thursday, May 30, 2013 and was unloaded Friday, May 31, 2013. (but at least it arrived).

I am guessing that Monday or Tuesday I should know the total costs to import (taxes, fees, first placa etc.).

So:

No snags yet....then again, no further updates either....but I expect something....very soon. Besides, they need to let the car sit in port a couple of days before a factura is issued so they can collect a few days "parking fee."

Already have my backup floor mats and jack ready to ship....just in case. I certainly hope that is the extent of it. Who knows, maybe I will be pleasantly surprised.

I'm 'all ears' for the Haina story given the warnings I've heard.

My car sat at Caucedo for a few days waiting on paperwork.... luckily, I guess, nothing went missing.
There was a big Cadillac SUV from Philadelphia right beside mine - black, January 2009.

I'm waiting to hear some stories also. I do hope every thing goes well for you. When I went to pickup my barrel from the port in Haina I was not good. They took forever the first day so I by the time all the paper work was done, it was closing time. Can't say if this was done on purpose because, but some things were missing when I unpacked it the next day at my apartment. Anything could have happen over night. All was there the first day because you they have to open it in front of you.

Also you will have to get a certified check if the taxes are over 5,000 pesos. Go early because they break for lunch around 12:30. Call and make sure.

Paperwork establishing ownership etc. You cannot just walk in and point to a vehicle and say I am here to get my car. Ownership, bills of sale, title documents, authority of a customs agent/broker/dealer to act on your behalf, etc., are all required to be submitted before a factura is issued to you. They are then supposedly crosschecked to make sure the vehicle is admissible (think 5 year rule, salvage/reconstructed title issues, etc).

Follow-up paperwork involves my bill of sale and what the vehicle cost, as opposed to what they think it is worth.

Not sure of your last sentence...perhaps you can clarify what you mean.
