Blue Collar Town in New Jersey
I don't think tourists expect a white glove treatment in Sosua, or any other north coast beach, but it is nice when the toilets have a seat so that you do not have to "hover" . It is also nice if you can identify a sink in the bathroom, and not have to reach underneath it to turn on the one valve (meaning only cold, no hot water) because the faucet is broken or missing.
They made similar renovations in Las Galeras. We now have nice bathrooms, chairs and tables to sit at while eating, and they have clean kitchens to cook in. There are tourists there as well as Dominican families enjoying it every day. The same local Dominicans are cooking each day. They were allowed to stay rent free indefinitely, they just have to pay utilities.
I hope your Sosua project happens faster than Las Galeras. LG took about three years. They would work for about one month, and then take three months off for procurement, meditation, vacation, etc.
They should have the decency to require attendance at the job site with white collar guy walking around with papers and the blue collar guys standing around with shovels like the rest of the civilized world.

This is interesting ,..I need to get back there pronto.. I really miss Playita ... I'm assuming this is where you speak of .?
This is my favorite Spot in Samana.
Would you say this has improved that area?

No. When you enter Las Galeras, the left hand turn by BanReservas takes you to Playita. That is pretty much the same, except a lot of new homes on the way to the beach.
Instead of turning, if you continue straight, all the way to the end, that is Playa Grande. They installed grey pavers on the last stretch of the road before the beach. They tore down the shacks and crude restroom and built about 10 spaces for them out of concrete and wood. There is a parking lot there, and they do not permit cars on the beach anymore. You can now walk to Todo Blanco and have a bite to eat there at the bar, on the lawn or beach without all the noise. Bar Raquel is also still there and offers drinks and a small sandwich menu, either near the bar or on the beach.
This is a video I found on youtube, not sure who made it. In it you will see Olympia from El Frances. She has been cooking there for years.

Cafe Cabano was normal about 90 minutes ago. Nobody ran me down on the way home, unless this is happening right now.

It happened early today, keep your passport handy.
They May come back tomorrow.

I was at El Batey all day from 0730, until 2030 but did have a short afternoon nap. Visited 3 beaches and walked about 10 miles, and everything looked normal.

My passport is going to remain untouched in my safe until I need it at the airport. Walking around with a passport is reckless.

I am just sharing what I saw on FB, I am far away from Sosúa.
Stay warm over there.

Cabarete, DR
I think Danny, who used to run what was called the Malibu Beach bar, moved to Thailand. He even sold his house in Casa Linda (and that came back on the market again from the buyer).

As for the new plazas, they are high up and on the Charamicos and it makes no sense to walk up there to get anything - I like Sosua beach because there is shade very close to the water and the convenience of a variety of food/drinks within 10 meters. I am not sure what the plan is for the El Batey end of the beach.

Going to be interesting to see the impact on the weekend warrior crowd and the businesses that rely on them all through the year.

I wonder if the government will take action against the few who take videos and keep uploading them to Youtube and make Sosua 'famous'.
They could ask Youtube to take action or they could arrest these people, otherwise anyone googling Sosua before booking a trip would be put off very quickly

Hard to know who to believe, the Thailand guy, Cuba Dave from his Colombian hideout, the loner, the cool biker fellow or the out of control gringa. We should have a poll to find out which is the most trusted source of info.

Always remember, all of those you tube channels are for profit. You tube is a business, not a news source. Any one of them has a mix of true info(however old), guesswork, and gossip.
The DR has taken action against you tubers in the past, as in Cuba Dave. We can now see that things are starting to change. Watch out weekend warriors!

I get the YouTube business model is for broke gringos, people with businesses here, people who have an axe to grind and others who are all butterflies and rainbows.

If the day comes when undocumented gringos are thrown in the back of a truck, it would solve the undocumented gringo problem overnight.

I guess the huge transformation of Sosua into a tourist destination with cultural and culinary interests is almost complete. Real-estate prices must be soaring
Actually, they have been soaring. They seem to have leveled off lately. Looks like a bubble to me, but so does everything else.

I am braving Playa Sosua today. It's a great beach day, and I will be interested to see how much they've ruined Playa Sosúa. I have been very opposed to the project from the beginning, so we shall see.
