I figured out something this morning as I walked Sosua Beach.

First... (this morning) there is a GIANT water leak pouring a small river through a half dozen “Bars”. It then makes it's way to the Beach and into the Erosion trench at the back of the Beach.
Second... on my way back, wanting to avoid walking through ankle deep running water, I opted to walk up the (middle) stairs and along the sidewalk on the Hwy.

There it is..... the reason there is a huge trench in the back of the Beach!

They built a Sidewalk on the Hwy! And curb that is the length of the Hwy. The CURB collects all the run off from the length of Hwy and funnels it to ONE SPOT. From there it runs steeply down the hill, through a half dozen “Bars”, and to the Beach were it has creates a giant eroded trench to the Sea.

The eroded trench at the back of the Beach is DR Government made.

Yes, I've seen similar behaviour at various other beaches here.
The few times I visited Costambar beach on the weekends, I noticed some of the visiting families made a bit of an effort to put their garbage in the cans. Some hit the mark. A few didn’t. Maybe the size of the beach is part of the reason. It’s small and any garbage dumped on it would soon encroach on your space. The beach vendors are all Dominican and they seemed motivated enough to collect the garbage and keep their vendor spaces clean. The guy we rented chairs from was attentive, checking to see if we wanted more beers or food, and he removed the waste from our area without us asking. I doubt this happens all the time but it does happen.

Of course, the other extreme are beaches like Playa Dorada kept very clean by the resorts. Puerto Plata Village, my old haunt as a very popular weekend resort for DR families. They would arrive by the bus loads. Boisterous and not always socially graceful in the lineups at the restaurants but they did make some effort to deposit their waste in proper containers on the beach and around the resort property.

I enjoyed meeting and chatting with the local families, the ladies there for the evangelical meetings, and the ladies of the evening there on the weekends trying to drum up some business.

This morning's Tide and the 2.3 meter waves managed to top the sand at the front of the Beach and break into the eroded trench behind. The beach is now vulnerable to large scale erosion from the Ocean.

Sand is what makes a Beach..... and SOON..... there will be less. This was preventable.

The Beach is NOT Going to Erode into the Ocean ..
Its a BAY ( protected on both sides and very well protected in fact so it wont do that .
But it will wreak Havoc with the Beach itself, . and Sosua Beach MAY have a RIVER going directly into the beach, very similar to other beaches around the Country.. Not as large perhaps ,but the water will fight to drain into the Ocean now that it has a clear Path, and it may be hard to stop it..

There really is no way to prevent sand moving around at a beach. But, please be aware that the sand from Sosua beach has not washed away into the ocean deeps. The sand is still within the cove that holds Sosua beach, waiting for wave action that will return the sand to the beach.

Not too many years ago, 3 or 4 years ago the water was right up to the ramp at the bottom of the parking lot. I remember the entire beach was close to 100 feet closer than today.
Not 3 or 4 years, time flies my friend, you are referring to 2017, when all of the sand from the Charamicos end of Sosua beach was washed north to the El Batey end.

Last time I walked down the beach was a few weeks ago and I was shocked by what I saw. I snapped a picture and posted it on this thread. The water run-off cut the El Batey side the beach in half.
