Today, in an amazing situation, I actually saw FIVE people working on the western plaza as I drove by... Incredible. I am astonished.
There are workers working there every single day, just because you don't see them as you drive by doesn't mean they aren't working on the project despite how slow it is going. I have friends that walk the beach from El Batey to Charamicos every day as part of their exercise routine and they see them there every day. Many many projects in the DR take forever, you should know that.

There is some progress since the last time I was there. I could see 3 guys (two behind the green net) who may or may not have been the same @windeguy saw, because I went there at around 6ish, so I didn't expect to see any workers actually. The roof-like thingies are beginning to get finished.

but not all of them.

The beach looked so peaceful.

The construction on the El Batey side was all covered up and I didn't bother going up the steps to see that.
I asked the staff in one of the bars in the middle about when they think they will asked move and one said may be another 12 to 18 months.

Thanks for the pics on progress. 12 to 18 months? Optimistic but hopeful on that. Realistic would be a couple of years.

I know all about slow in the DR for those who commented on that. This is the DR government's version of slow.
Like the failed bridge version of slow in replacement. This is a lot more work than that simple bridge. And so it goes.

Now when this is all done in a few years: Why would there be 150 plus vendors between the two plazas all selling the same thing?

I don't go because I didn't like what I saw when I went there. Pretty simple reason.
That's more or less why I don't care for the town anymore either. If it weren't for all of the friends I have who live up there, I probably wouldn't go more than two or three times a year.

Where will they fit 150 vendors? From the way things are shaping up, I doubt there will 50 locations total in the 2 plazas.
I was quite certain that there would be far fewer places in the plazas than 150. But even at 50 locations selling the same thing, how much sense does that make?
