^ wow great comment spam lol.

anyways, this thread has really opened my eyes in terms of the state of consumer internet on this island. Thanks for everyone's help.

I guess I won't be able to host my porn surfing business off my personal computer in Santo Domingo :)

I still remember the good old days of having cable internet for dirt cheap and not having to wait for a video to buffer. The internet here is gotten to a point where i could leave the room with a page loading and come back and its still not done loading! thank you codetel

*UPDATE* after hunting and hunting, it turns out, the best I could find (and get) is Claro Codetel in los cacicazgos santo domingo.

Download: 2.4 Mbs (pretty consistent for past 24 hours)

Upload: 850 Kbs (also pretty consistant).

This is the VIP package, includes landline phone, full digital cable, wireless router 1, 2 digital tv boxes, and an analogue phone thrown into the bundle. The bundle is expensive relatively - $RD 5800/month inclusive of IMPUESTA tax.

For those of you new like me, if the installer seems compus, give him a few beers at the end and get his personal mobile # and promise to take care of him if stuff goes pear shaped.

De Lancer Cable

I pay US$38 per month, didn't seem any better when I paid the higher rate of $51. It's acceptable except when you are trying to watch a video etc.
