In many hot countries, you will find that the majority of men wear long pants (DR, Africa, Middle East, you name it). The fact that you are more comfortable in short and less hot doesn't mean that others are. Personally, I don't see the difference, I wear jeans when it is hot, again I don't have sweaty balls![]()
It s like many hot countries drink hot tea, although it is counter-intuitive.
I still bring 2 pairs of jeans and at least 2 pairs of slacks every trip.. from my very first time in the DR, Santo Domino.. I was told by the people who introduced me to the country.. " we do not go out at night in shorts, period".. and I understood it immediately..
Only since coming to sosua am i in shorts all day cuz everyone else is doing it too, and its a beach town..
But In Santiago, or Santo Domingo, NO WAY would i wear shorts like at Dinner.. or to a Movie ? oh Helll noooo..
I find bras much more uncomfortable than pants when it s hot![]()
What I don't get is why so many people think they have to wear pants just to fit in here. If you prefer them then great but if you are uncomfortable and hot why would care what others think?
It really baffles me.
No worries Big Bird I don't mind different opinions, i know most if all people won't agree with me on this!!
I don't like being told what to wear when it makes me extremely sweaty and uncomfortable and avoid places with dress codes most of the time if possible, it's just not my thing.
............But in the city.... yes, abide by the rules
i don't understand why people are so hell bent over this long pants business. i don't work and on daily basis i don't have to live by some imaginary dress code. it's shorts and chancle all the way. whenever i am forced to participate in boring social occasions i wear a dress. no problemo. when i visited palacio nacional i wore a suit, also no problemo. but on normal days i want to be comfy.
Heavy tattooing on a gringo stands out like a peacock in a chicken ranch and will always bring a tug from the filth! Something else to consider depending where going.
You are in Puerto Plata but life in Santo Domingo is different..............
Good thing I don't know any gringos with Heavy tats, sounds like it would suck living here for them!
