Been in every casino in Santo Domingo in flipflops and shorts, never had an issue as long as I'm playing. Not because I@ disrespectful but because I can. Simple as that.
maybe rules have changed. i said the early 90s.

DV8 snap out of it. You are talking Puerto Plata and I am talking la capital Santo Domingo. Peeps go to the supermarket in la capital smelling and looking good, just the way of life here in Santo Domingo. Ride the Metro, go to the mall and you won't see a single person not "dressed up". It is what it is.how is it different for someone who has no job and at most goes to the supermarket and a local bar? it ain't.
There are still places with dress codes. We stopped at Tipico Bonao on our way back from POP, and Mr. AE was wearing a sleeveless t-shirt and jeans. They refused our entry because of bare arms - and it wasn't a tank top. We had suitcase in the car so he went out to the parking lot and put a long sleeved shirt on over the t-shirt.

bigbird, snap out of it. i go to walk dogs, the supermarket and to visit family. no long pats needed, even if i was living in SD.

If you ever see gringo slobs in SD you can bet it is either Dv8, HUG or myself!!
maybe unlike you i don't care to feel out of place. i accept the fact there is a dress code. accept the fact that i ignore it and live on.
One last question, does it not make you feel good to put on a little makeup, some nice clothes, nails all polished up and just step out for the day? And well the end of the day got a nice looking smelling clean dude laid up in the bed with you?
But to each his own, you want to look like a rag muffin OK with me. I lean towards the caramel looking good ladies.

May be they don't want to be the center of attention because of a fashion faux-pas
