We may be unhappy but there's nothing most of us gringoes can do about it.It's a pretty gringo - infested part of town.Most in my condo and next door condos are foreigners and can't vote or protest and as far as I can see, the local residents would probably welcome some amusement and maybe a few extra dollars.

Assuming the biggest problem the authorities are reacting to is the way the town is portrayed on the internet, a red light district will make that much worse.

My prediction is that the authorities are going to continue to shut down the most popular venue, red light district or not.

La familia
Las madres que muestran su preocupación, entienden que esto afecta el buen desenvolvimiento de la sana convivencia natural de las familias sosuenses. “En el Batey Sosúa existen dos centros educativos, el colegio Luis Hess y la escuela pública y este es el ejemplo que le damos a nuestros hijos, de ser chulos y cueros”, dijo Altagracia Domínguez madre de tres estudiantes de primaria.
Luisa Martínez hace un llamado a no entregar a la corrupción los valores del pueblo. “No vamos a abandonar nuestras escuelas y colegios, que se muden ellos, que nosotros estamos aquí primero”, agrega Martínez. Una gran parte de los moradores del municipio de Sosúa consideran que todos estos males funcionan con la complicidad de algunas autoridades y el sector privado que se benefician directamente.
Ante el avance de “la actividad de venta de turismo sexual”, incluyendo hoteles y policías, sectores piden frenar este tipo de actuación. Es por eso que hacen un llamado a la Procuraduría General de la República, Fiscalía de Sosúa, Ministerio de Salud, Medio Ambiente, Turismo, y demás autoridades competentes a buscarle una salida para controlar el turismo sexual.

The family

Mothers who show their concern, understand that this affects the good development of the healthy natural coexistence of the families. "in the batey sosua there are two educational centers, the Luis Hess school and the public school and this is the example we give to our children, to be pimps and leather", said Altagracia Dominguez mother of three primary students.

Luisa Martínez makes a call not to deliver to corruption the values of the people. "we will not abandon our schools and schools, that they move, that we are here first", add Martinez. A large part of the inhabitants of the municipality of sosua consider that all these evils work with the complicity of some authorities and the private sector that benefit directly.

Translators take 'cueros. literally as 'leathers'.
I would love to know where this originates.
Is the expression common throughout Latin America?

I think they mean "whores" commonly referred to as "cuerlos" (not sure if I spelled it correct)

And that is exactly what the government wants for Sosua, CHANGE.

AND IT'S COMING.

NOW.

The future of Sosua will be debuting for all who care to see it this weekend. On Saturday night, inside the AHNVEE hotel, The New Skybox Disco will be opening, right in the heart of the new "red light district." Also "Bourbon Street Grill" will be closing at it's current location at the center of Pedro Clisante and on November 1, will be in their new location at the AHNVEE resort.

Most won't realize the gravity of this move by Bourbon Street, speaks volumes.

For those fans of Merengue and Classico, I suggest you pay them a visit in the very near future, it will probably be your last.

The countdown starts Saturday night. The clock is ticking.

As some people mentioned before how does moving some bars/discos/clubs/restaurants to the end of the street is going to effect the situation in this town, doesn't this just send a wrong signal and promote it, "hey, come and enjoy your whore mongering, we don't mind it as long as you do it a few meters over there... "!? How does that clean up Sosua and saves it's image and reputation ?

If you had any doubt this was all about some rich supporters of current mayor (ADSS) and greedy real state agents trying a land and business grab, you have your answer now. This is DR after all, always a huge under current of money underneath everything that goes on here... !

Ah, and can someone open a book on the next establishment in place of Bourbon street that is moving, I am willing to wager a bit, let me see, a prime location for...., how about a mosque, or kindergarten, no , no, I think we really need a Chinese fast food/junk shop ... ! lol

Ok, but the premise is the same. If tourist “families” are going to come here, it’s not going to be when school is in session. And right now school is in session all over the world. (Well except in one place. It’s Borat holiday week in Kazakhstan. Schools are out for the mating with the goats).

That said, I don’t expect Sosua to become a family destination anytime in the near future.

And that said, I HAVE seen “tourist families” on playa Sosua periodically over the last 15 years. More so in the past 2-3 years. But they are still so rare as to be very noticeable.

But Sunday’s (in good weather) are still great family days for locals on Playa Sosua. It’s my favorite day to stroll the beach.

Will Bourbon Street be replacing the CRAVE restaurant? Or will they be an additional epicurean venue?

Simple it puts it out view..out of sight out of mind...you where here long enough to see first big push over 5 yrs ago made a big dent ...this is next wave ... you know yourself how bad it got 8 yrs ago you couldn’t walk area even with wife in tow without being propositioned or your junk grabbed Papi...only those been here for long time would understand or would of seen
Difference to today...demographics changed here because it went out of control ...8 yrs ago a push started on flesh trade and mafioso wannabes Sosua was little Chicago in the growing lawyers getting killed business partners dead etc...king of Lamulata
Types monthly shootings..well things have gotten better and if there plan works in reality effects only handful of businesses you should see a big difference in couple yrs... remember 15 yrs ago how nice it was what’s wrong with that businesses where happy and thriving...how is it now?

I would never want to see Iliana burned at the stake.
Maybe tarred and feathered.

Sad aspect of it all is that a lot of good things could be done for our little seaside village that benefit all of us not just the church going Sunday moralists .
Government for some of the people.

Maybe Ahnvee knew something when building in the empty quarter ?
At least there is a hotel cerca de the new monger central.
But it sure isn't $35/night and there's still those bathrooms without doors. Even most hookers won't like that.

Well they didn’t build in middle of nowhere just cause they had extra cash on hand...remember how people laughed and said how stupid that was...not everyone likes to slum it $35....well after doing the wild thing like on animal channel what’s to hide ;)

last night there was probably 150 plus chicas roaming Pedro C and area,... at least. If they are going to stuff them into one building or block they better have mucho bathrooms otherwise things will get really obscene.
I still am a tad confused as to the moving the chica bars. Sosua is STILL going to be a monger town. It will NEVER be a legitimate family tourist destination. Tijuana is a hoe town, but people visit for cheap meds and spend a lot of money. People are not going to travel to Sosua to visit a half mile beach and eat a fried fish platter and be told not to flush toilet paper when staying in a 10x10 30 year old concreate prison cell
