My guess is that the instructions given were to close all the hooker bars on Pedro Clisante, and whoever carried out those instructions did so to the letter. Sondebar is not on Pedro Clisante, so it was not closed, but I expect it will be soon.
Blue Ice isn't on Pedro Clisante either.

But wasn’t Blue Ice also shut down? They are not directly “on” Pedro Clisante. I fact they are directly across the street from Sonabar on Calle Dr. Rosen.

And what about the Diamond Lounge? It’s on PC but “set back” a bit and up on the second floor. On one of the links in this thread one of the articles included it in the list of bars that were closed. Is that correct?
(I’d check myself, but I got out of town just before all this occurred).

And if “all the non-restaurant bars” on that strip of PC were supposed to be closed down, what’s the deal with the Mamajuana Bar (another one that’s set back a bit. But the entrance is directly on PC. And it’s certainly not a restaurant). I really like the place so was happy to see that it appears to be open per the article in Sosua News today.

That's the truth - I found out if shock absorbers break within 30 days - T**f**co in Puerto Plata will just claim you abused it...... Never mind you only drove on the roadway between Sosua and Puerto Plata.
There are no real guarantees in DR. Even if they damage something during delivery....it was your fault.

I hear a judge issued a ruling that the shut downs were illegal and the businesses can reopen ? You can buy whomever you like in this country. Pesos talk.

Fascinating. They had enough money in Sosua to buy off Santo Domingo? Those hookers were more valuable than gold, it would seem, if that is true. Let's see what happens. Somehow I doubt they will "Put the Candle Back"...

(a reference to the movie Young Frankenstein, so you had to have seen it, to get it.)

You cant be serious. How did I and most others learn about Sosua? It wasn't from those black guys who really dont get views on their videos; it was from a white guy from south Florida named Cuba Dave who was immensely popular on YouTube. But I guess it's easier to blame the weekend warriors.

He was certainly significant in the recent problems. He may have led the way for those who speak English. But the straw that broke the camels back was not one man. I will leave it at that.

The on dit is that the list wasn't PC specific, just hooker bar specific. I hear that Bourbon St., as it's the same owner, has already moved to AHNV, as the anchor for the new Hooker Mall.

What about the beach?

I guess they want to move the monger scene on the other side of Sosua (out of sight out of mind) and make this side of Pedro Clisante more family friendly. I would assume that the chicas will still be plying their trade during the daytime at the beach. Also, the mongers will still be utilizing the hotels around the corner on Dr. Rosen and those restaurants that cater to them. The only winner I see is not the town of Sosua or the monger. It will be the motoconcho shuttling customers from Playa Chiquita to New Garden Hotel. So I guess that the area will be family friendly only at night.

It is way past time that the beach be revamped. The government has been threatening for years to build a Sosua Center building with retaurants and shops (for the select few that can afford the rent) while removing ALL of the current beach bars since they do not own the land they are on and actually operate illegally. Maybe that will be next? Maybe, maybe not.

As for places that were shut down not directly on Pedro Clisante, that is an interesting situation, along with those not closed that obviously are Puta bars.

Any confirmation on a judge ruling in favor of the recently closed businesses? That will be obvious if any of them re-open. I expect it is not true.

This opens up more questions. Blue Ice is not on PC, but directly in front of Sondabar. Directly on PC are 4 puta bars that were not closed down. Diamond Lounge, Mamajuana, the puta bar next to Mamajuana (next to elefante rosa) and the puta bar next to Britannia, which is owned by a Dominican Lady who is an ex whorehouse owner from Boca Chica. Did they concentrate only on the bigger bars in this round? or are they only concentrating on expat owned bars? All of the bars closed are expat owned correct, except for El flow.

Anhvee is owned by an investor group (mostly from Florida) and not by the owner of Bourbon St. although he might be an investor. If I'm not mistaken the investor group is called Dream City.

Yes, although I'm not positive. But if I remember correctly it's the same investors. I know 100% that the local (Iranian?) guy is involved in both projects.

I wonder what this will mean for La Union? Stuff like this usually turns out poorly for local communities.

I was just looking at their website and yes that is him. He was instrumental in putting the deal and investors together for Anhvee resort. He's actually a really nice guy.

I am all for a nice resort if it benefits the local area.

Dream City, is actually a small city, go figure and not just an AI resort concept. Many different types of construction are mentioned in the prospectus. Perhaps it will actually happen, but it will take years to do what they mention.

Blue Collar Town in New Jersey
That's quite a Dream .. .reminds me a lot of a Meadowland's project which has taken about 15 + years , and is not complete yet .

Does this place have plans for Indoor Skiiing & water park?

and that Master Plan map ... if those buildings are for real, and to scale with # of Floors accurately depicted , thats not a multi " Million dollar " Project ... . More like 1 +++ BILLION dollar Project .
The Hospital/ Medical center alone would cost 25-50 Million if not a LOT more .. ( in the USA it would shock most people to know it costs 100 to 200 BILLION to build a fully operational Hospital, yes that's BILLIONS. )
But maybe they are talking about a small CLINIC, and the Building is just an Artists Sketch , and not really meant to be realistic.
In either case ..Nice Concept ... Could mean a LOT of JOBS...

Had dinner and drinks with a mutual acquaintance of ours last night in Sosua.
From what I saw it appears (as always) absolutely no logic regarding which
businesses were allowed to stay open and which were forced to close, aside
from the fact that most of the businesses that were shut down appear to cater
to a specific "group" of tourist. Also heard that King (formerly Rumba) will probably
be back open very soon.

It should be called fantasy land., Or bogus-ville. I like the part where they are planning on exploiting the 1.50 an hour labor cost, proudly I might add. looks like someone wanting to take advantage of pensioners and the less educated.
