The U.S. was not alone in suffering a resurgence this fall. Much of the world did. But many other countries responded to that surge with targeted new restrictions and, in a few cases, with an increase in rapid-result testing.
Those measures seem to be working. Worldwide, the number of new cases has fallen over the past week.
In some countries, the declines are large: more than 50 percent over the past month in Belgium, France, Italy, Kenya and Saudi Arabia; more than 40 percent in Argentina and Morocco; more than 30 percent in India and Norway.
And in the U.S.? The number of new cases has risen 51 percent over the past month.
The causes are not a mystery. The U.S. still lacks a coherent testing strategy, and large parts of the country continue to defy basic health advice. One example is Mitchell, a small South Dakota city, where deaths have spiked recently — including the loss of a beloved high school coach. Yet anti-mask protesters continue to undermine the local response.
Among their messages at a recent City Council meeting, as Annie Gowen of The Washington Post reported: “Positivity defeats the virus.”
And yet reported US Flu Cases are almost non-existent so far this winter.
Because every virus has somehow morphed into Covid.
Had the CARES ACT ( there's an oxymoron) not allowed the hospitals to be paid an extra 20% for LTCH (Long Term Care in Hospital) then the numbers would not have morphed. Not only that but they changes the rules to now allow hospitals to retroactively bill cases to January 27, 2020 - so the hospitals are busy searching any viral patients to see what else they can screw Medicare out of.
And to top it off they are waving the 3 days hospital stay to qualify for LTCH. And to top off the insantoy the hospitals do not need to present a positive Covid test. It can be "assumed" to be the result of Covid. So if you had trouble breathing from say COPD, or Hantavirus - then call it Covid, some of the treatments are the same and collect the money as you pass "Go".

If you provide an incentive to cheat the government - people & companies will do it almost every time.

Covid exits but way too many deaths were attributed to it.

Had the incentives been to pay extra for hospital stays involving broken ankles I think we would have seen alot of people dying with broken ankles.

I know 3 or 4 cases here in DR of people posting they had Covid and looking for the 'requisite sympathy wishes' and the 'you-fight-it-attaboys', when in fact they had nothing of the sort.
Like a dud firecracker their victim hood was exposed, and they look stupid.

Whaaaat ? ! I shouldn't believe everything I hear, told to me? I should do independent research and come to my own conclusions, not a set of facts I selectively gather by confirming my own personal bias?
Next thing, you're going to tell me the Easter Bunny isn't real . Dude, I love my parents, and let me tell you the most important people in the world to me would never lie about such matters. They have nothing but my best interests at heart.
Ditto my politicians.

Funny in Canada, the flu is wiped out.

It is estimated 340 deaths are pure Covid deaths. One of the ways they game the numbers being
you are tested before you die and after you pass. Because these tests are not accurate according to the inventor, and he calls Dr. Fauchi an IDIOT!, you most likely test positive. Previous vaccinations for any reason can help that positivity.

Plandemic? Gather the facts and draw a reasonable conclusion. Like when did govts ever give up power after seizing it?
Are you noticing a pattern in the DR? Extension after extension. Remember 15 days to flatten the curve?! Hahaha.

No - never recalled 125 days to flatten the curve

You really need to get here -- boots on the ground
Bit out of touch with reality......

Life's easy here..... you don't feel anything

There are no covid deniers. There are those of us that think the alleged cure is worse than the disease. Sorry if we offend you....ah, not really!
Well, the bug, and science in general, doesn't really care about what you "think." We have folks on this board who have almost died from this thing. I have a family member who DID die from it.

So, you can prognosticate all you want about levels of severity. In the US, 300k people are dead from this thing, millions more have been stricken. Some people are asymptomatic, others will have permanent organ damage. Much of this can be avoided by wearing your damn mask and observing social distancing.

In the DR, the curfew has just been shortened because of well-grounded concerns about the bug spreading. Until there's a readily-available vaccine, we all need to exercise caution for ourselves, and for each other.

Speak of the Devil.....
Thanks for keeping us up to date with
what's happening up there in the US.
300K? I thought it was closer to a million? I might have it confused with them folks marching...
Either way, I do appreciate it.

We are all going to die of something. In fact, most of us will probably be exposed to this virus. We can't shut down the economy.

I'm truly sorry for your family member. My sis and BIL had it and recovered. Sickness is never pleasant. But neither is unemployment and hunger.

You do what you think best for your family. I'll do the same for mine.

Im going to Puerto Plata and santo domingo from dec. 25 to mid January.
I can still cancel my trip with no penalty. Should i do it???
Wondering if its really worth going to DR with all these new restrictions. I don't fear covid, i just dont like vacation killing restrictions.

The restrictions are the curfew. Either 9PM or 7PM. If that interferes too much is your decision to make. Anything you want to do during the day pretty much is the same.

308k deaths, and counting.

Every day, we lose more people than were killed at Pearl Harbor.

Over 17M people sick, and counting. I do not know how many of those are mild or asymptomatic cases, and how many have long-term damage.

I guess the governments of the world want all businesses to fail and we all eat grass. I just contacted a friend who was coming with two others on the 20th, told them this BS and they are canceling their trip which was for a month. Cancel the villa they were to rent in Hispanola and the $150 a day each approx they spend per day and rebt-a-car
Screw this nonsense. Time to defy the orders.
Tourism is officially ended for DR.
Some are facing CV19 fatigue, I see.

I do understand.

I really think it will be better here. Especially if you're in an AI for any of the time. Even if not, 9PM isn't that unreasonable.

Did you plan on evenings out with friends ? Or just days at the beach during the day or shopping for trinkets and playing solitaire in the hotel all night.
Were it me looking for a winter vacation I would cancel my plans until sanity returns to the country
