A couple of questions which are not clear to me in your post:
Is the plan to go to Paris first and then Spain?
The entry point to the EU would depend upon flights available from POP. They are limited. During a trip I would like to go to three different countries.
2. How does Poland fit into this idea? Is it part of the Paris/Spain trip?
Yes, Poland is one of the three countries so I can visit a cousin. Spain is the other main country where my wife has a cousin. If Paris isn't easy, then I would leave France out.
3. Is Poland a Schengen member?
Yes with respect to the visa needed. https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/schengen-area/
4. From SDQ who flies direct to Paris, or Poland?
No idea on that and I hope that does not play into my trip. I live on the north coast and don't wish to add two additional days to my trip going to Santo Domingo. and back. I hate going there anyway. I would much prefer POP to the EU and back to POP. I have not yet checked on any flights. We could also connect through Miami or JFK, but then that adds potential layovers. Anything else?

You can fly direct from STI to MAD. Santiago to Madrid.

And that might make sense for me if POP does not work. Thanks.
But it is looking less likely because of what needs to be done to get the visa.
If a trip to Santo Domingo for an interview is required, forgetaboutit forever and ever.
If it can be done completely online, then I might give that a shot.
It is still on my list, but has dropped lower in priority as I find out more information in places like this thread.

As an aside and a joke: When I first looked into getting a Schengen visa based upon an invitation from my cousin in Poland, it required a visit to the Polish Embassy. Turns out the Polish Embassy in this case for a Dominican would be in Panama!

So my wife would first need a visa to vist Panama, just to go to that inverview. I didn't even ask how she could get that visa.
Back home we would call this run-around a "Polish shortcut"....

I flew multiple times from SDQ to Paris Air France. They used to have one flight per day, I believe!
Me to, unfortunately the schedule changed, about a year ago. KLM provides these flights via JFK or PTY. No direct flights from SDQ to CDG and visa versa. The reason why AF no longer offers any flights (not even in winter) is unclear. It will undoubtedly have to do with costs.

Perhaps not. There must be a visa application center in charge of processing those visas. For instance, the Canadian consulate for Dominican visa applications is in Mexico, but you don´t need to go to Mexico, you go to the designated VAC here.

For sure, yes. I called them and they told me my wife would have to go to Panama for a Schengen visa to Poland. So I am sure that is the path nobody in their right mind would take. I won't even go to Santo Domingo for a Schengen visa.

Panama hmmm... second time this week they have been involved in these bizarre arrangements, such as ghost issuing credit cards

Just goes to show how little joy is in your life. Since you hold a US passport this " Schergen visa business" is for your wife. (as it is in my case.)Maybe you ought to think about the other person and the great time you would have getting out of that little cocoon of yours in that speck of sand in the DR.

I mean you no harm. But, you really have a problem with life itself...IMO.

Uhm. I talked to my wife extensively about this. It is her decision at the end of the day. And she feels it is not worth the effort.
But thanks for the kind words. Next week we will both be at a Yankees game when they play Boston and spend the next week at Lake George and then Lake Ontario with friends and family.

Normally we make a couple of trips per year out of our so called cocoon.

I have no issues with life, but thanks for your incorrect analysis. I just tell it like it is.

Yes I have. Read my posts on rejection. Read my posts on applying for Spain. You're out of touch with the subject matter since your release from the hospital. Catch up fast. Carrrrry on.
Perhaps you could say what the lawyer did that made a difference?

Well, I think you need to come to the realisation that immigration is a huge huge huge problem across Europe. Politicians talk about very little else. And nobody is getting a visa easily. So if you really do want to go and you really do want a visa for your wife who is a national of a high-risk, high refusal-rate country, then you have to face the facts that you're going to have to invest some money in getting the visa. And a visa which gives access to 28 countries is an amazing visa. And obviously once she has been in once and come back once, the second time she wants to go it will be much easier to get a visa.

Think of the 2,000 as an investment. And as I mentioned, Europe is very expensive everywhere, so this will be a fraction of the cost of your trip.

Just my opinion, I guess you won't agree but it's a forum we are here to share different views.
All I want to know is what a lawyer can do in the process that I cannot do myself. Those details. What exactly is 2,000 USD paying for?

I'm very aware of immigrant problems and have been forever and ever.

My wife and I are at JFK on the way back to POP tonight .

We had a joy less 10 day trip starting with seeing the Yankees beat the Red Sucks with a Juan Soto walk off home run at Yankee stadium.
Then we celebrated my birthday , visited cousins in Warrensburg and Lake George ,friends on Lake Ontario, did a 1,000 Islands tour , saw friends in Albany and are heading home... without any joy at all. Now we are planning what trip to joylesssly take next. The EU seems to have immigrant issues so a lawyer is needed for a visa ..That is what I learned in this thread. And that an interview is needed in Santo Domingo..

Thank you for thinking of me even while you're on vacay. Since I was OP of thread in July 2023 (more than one year ago) I have self educated and have learned quite a bit about "visas et al").
Sorry to hear that you continue to have a joy less existence. Only you can work that problem out. I will keep you in my prayers Windy. Enjoy your Sunday.

I was being satirical in repsonse to your prevous post of my joyless existence. I guess you missed that and so might have JD Jones.

I had about 6 hours to wait at the TWA hotel this very early AM for an early morning Jet Blue flight that brought us back, so it was at the very end of our time in the USA.
I have been on "vacation" since 2003.

We have to plan our next trips out of the DR now.

Go Yankees...

I have gotten visas for my wife to Mexico, Canada, and the USA. The USA one was a joke in how it had to be done.
I have gotten residency in the USA for 6 people. One of them twice.

The EU looks far more difficult for my wife get a visitor's visa than all but what I had to do for her to get a USA visitor's visa.
And from the information needed, I very much doubt our current situation would qualify her for one.
That is why I was looking for the details that might help.
