I'm here because : My wife has her business here and it's her turn. I'm retired at a relatively young age -55 and can afford to live here. I love Jarabacoa, warts and all. I live rent/mortgage free with great medical coverage , both here and in Canada.

I'm here because my Mocana couldn't deal with the the US and all it's stresses. We thought about going back but Obama resolved that pretty quickly - there are no jobs for a white engineer back home pushing 50 with little management experience.
So now I'm stuck here getting a masters so I can teach and trying to teach my three daughter's that speaking with the "i" is what they do in the "campo" - really. I do it as well btw
Actually, engineers of all ages are in great demand in the states. At least software engineers are in demand.
I'm in the construction industry. We are not in demand because the banks won't lend money to our clients in spite of the fact the gov't gave/lent them 1.4 trillion.

Well if you ever have any questions I'll do my best to answer them in the same respectful manner as your post, as I would do for anyone who has questions.
OK... so in the spirit of the thread's intention, here are a few of the things I like about the D.R.
I like walking out of my home and feeling the tropical sun sear my redheaded gringo skin. (yes.. I really do mean I like it!)
I like the feeling of the coral rock / gravel road under my feet as I walk down to the beach. (Reminds me of a couple of trips to Bimini on spring break in the 70's)
I like palm trees.
I like hearing a foreign language spoken all around me, and not caring what they're saying.
I like the friendly faces, even though I realize some just want a little cash.
I like that in my experience Dominicans really do want to help, and LOVE being able to solve a problem.
I like that Dominicans will try to make things work with what they have. (but this can also be a bad thing... for another thread)
I LOVE the beach at Macau.
I like Presidente, (and I'm not easy to please with beer)
I like the absolutely stunning beauty of some of the Dominicanas. (No, not ALL are beautiful, but the beautiful girls ARE fabulous -- and, like with beer, I'm not easily impressed in this category either. LOL)
I love the ocean, and that I can afford to own my apt. a short walk away from it.

There are obvious health risks associated with unpasteurized milk. However, 31 states(including PA, CA, WI, NY, MI) allow human consumption of raw milk, with varying conditions and stipulations. Several others allow it to be sold for consumption by pets only.

This was one of your finer posts JMB I must admit, I have had the pleasure of testing out different flavors if I may say so myself. I'm not sure what my OP would sound like if I grew up in a barrio in SD. It's definitely not my favorite place in the DR so it would be skewed.
Yea Chi-town mex girls are more hood and cali mex girls are more prep I guess, yea, they're fine. I feel like we have a pretty good variety here in the cibao , the only thing lacking are natural blondes, I'd say prolly 5% or so in the entire cibao area with the highest concentration in constanza. I love the fact I have a completely black uncle people think is haitian and my mom who has blue eyes and blonde hair. I feel like the variety here mixes together much better than in SC. Valley people are all together which includes no dark skinned people, asians are always together, filipinos are always together, it's diverse but I don't really feel they mix together properly. I've dated a few asian girls but it was always hard for me to really hit it off with them.
Why the hate for Listamilk? I think I acquired the taste since I've been coming here since childhood and think it's the best thing ever. When I go to the US the milk tastes just like water to me, and I must say I enjoy fresh cows milk also here, something I could never get in the US. Some other great things I've discovered are chinola dulce (granadilla) and pitaha (dragonfruit) and I didn't know they were produced locally till recently. The only other place I've had granadilla was in Peru and let's not even get started on peruvian girls
Sayanora to the untrained eye it seems that I am always putting down DR which is not true. If you can find some of my post I ALWAYS stick up for Santo Domingo Este when many people say how awful it is. I myself LOVE Santo Domingo Este to be it is the best part of Santo Domingo. In other areas ( I do not want mention any names) people have to maintain a certain "image" if they want to be a part of that community. Not the case in SD Este come as you are. There are many things about the DR that I love the other people dislike Example:
I love "Guaguas" everything about them. They pick you up and drop you off anywhere along their route. They come often and are very cheap. I used to live by the Cabanas on San Isidro and from there to Plaza Lama on Duarte cost me 30RD and sometime I would go to Samana which the bus station was right next to Plaza Lama and that would cost 280RD from SD to Samana. You do not need a car to function in DR which is great. Puerto Rico is a different story if you do not own a car in PR getting around is not as easy. One time my girl and I missed our ride to Ponce so we had to take taxi from Rio Peidres to Ponce 110USD. If this was DR I could have taken 3 different bus services to get to SD to Santiago and paid like 280RD.
Next I LOVE load music in DR salsa, meregue,bachata, I do not really like reggaton that much, but even it has to be played at a very loud level. The one thing you do not need in DR is a Iphone or a shuffle to hear music because no matter where you are in SD Este you will hear some type of music. Sometime when I was in bed at night the neighbors music was so loud it was being in the club. Some music have to be played very loud so it can be felt. If you listen to any of Omega music it sounds totally different when the volume is low.
Last but not least I LOVE my barber in SD Este I keep my head bald, but I have my beard and mustache and he was a wizard with the razor. He would only charge me 100RD but I started to give what I give my barber here which is like 15USD. So I would give a 300RD tip all the time because he was amazing. Now I will tell you this because it can never get back to me that I said it, but when it comes down to barbers I love Dominican barbers better then Puerto Rican and African American barbers, but you did not hear this from me.
BTW No hate on Listamilk, but have you ever heard of a dairy company called Oberweis. They use glass bottles like in the " Leave it to Beaver" days. What do you know about one of my favorite drink" Pina con leche"
