Hildalgo, not an opportunist but the right man for the job, the People of DR had always have fear, fear of high prices, political corruction, the electrical problem, huelgas and yes another Trujillo.
Candelier is a differnt politician, he is a man that wants to help his country and will do so when elected.
He is a candidated that a lot of people (including myself) wanted to see in the race and now he is.

Gracias

Okay, I stand corrected. But I did specify "in my hometown of Higuey," didn't I?

As far as having lots of money, well, that goes without saying; HB pointed that out at the outset.

I see that you do agree about the fear factor and not just in the DR but in many other countries. Look at how right here in the US president Bush has been using it for the last 6 years.

I said it before and will say it again when under fear people do foolish things.:ermm:

Hidalgo, I do agree with people doing foolish things under fear but does this mean that we have to keep things the way they are now? or give a chance to a different kind of politician?

Candelier is the not just taking an opportunity, he has a real chance at becaming presidente and doing it at the moment when the DR needs someone like the MOST.

Gracias

Vamos a ver quien es este.

Mr Tallman, In order to get elected, He/she must prove his/herself by going through a process of speaking engagements so people can get get to know who he/she really is. Also using the media to state his/her platforms to declare why, when and how he/she will be tackling whatever problem and why he/she is the best person to do so.

You trying to convince people in dr1 ain't gonna do it. We need to hear it, in a manner of speaking, directly from the horse's mouth.
You need to tell your candidate that he needs to expose, as it were, himself to potential sympathizers. It seems, most of us don't know much more about him beyond his performance in his tenure as la policia nacional's chief.

If he wants to get votes, he must convince people that he's more than meets the eyes, more than a tough-talking, heavy-handed Trujillista that most of us thinks he is.
Word-of-mouth declarations won't get you far. Me entiendes?

TallmanXXXXX is missing something here----

ALL political aspirants MUST have a following amoung the electorate which is overwhelmingly affirmative in support of the endeavors of a political party's efforts to gain political control of the Government.

No single man can be an effective National Leader without the support of the legislative Branch of the government. To think otherwise is absolute folly. The Legislative Branch is the true Power Base and without the complete cooperation of that element of government any and all leaders are "hamstrung" in any efforts to promulgate laws essential to changes and/or progress within the indigenous society

In the wake of Mejia's castrophic Administration, the Dominican people rose up in a united support of what they considered to be the least intrusive of the political parties on the horizon.

It must be acknowledged that here, as in any country, the party and candidates must have almost unlimited funding in order to gain the focus of the electorate in order to gain their support and win the election.
Leonel had that financial backing and the charisma to effect the victory.
Now, he is paying the price for that financial and vocal support.

The BIG QUESTION is, does Candalier have the financial and vocal support necessary to upset the "party in power" at the next National election process?

Does the electorate trust his integrity and rhetoric enough to give that support?

Do Dominicans have a long enough memory to seperate the "Wheat from the Chaff" in the political milieu of the Dominican Republic and elect yet another :reformer" whom they view as being the "Right man for the job"?

Or, will they, being "takers" by social nature, reject the necessary enduring sacrifices necessary to bring the DR into the body of international financial and social participation fortheir own good?

Does Candalier have the expertise to really do the job? Or, is he just yet another opportunist seeking to advance his individual political ambitions?

These are the questions that must be addressed and answered before any comparison can be made between parties or candidates.
