I can live without clubs, bars and restaurants and soak in my pool when needed. My kids are at the age where they prefer the pool than the beach too, plus they have their amiguitos there now. Absolutely not a problem for me, although I realize I may not be typical. If the borders open, I plan to be there in July :devilish:
Same here :)

I was referring to the typical tourists that come here. Also, there's no set date for the beaches to open.

You have now created your own private club, bar and restaurant.
Best of all, you get to choose your hours of operation, who you allow in, what music/songs you listen to, what you cook/eat/drink, and know that the bathrooms are clean.

Who are these typical tourists you speak of? The ones posting within who are stating they want/will return soon are fine enough for me.

50 flights is not even two a day. And don't all airlines now have the middle seat blocked off so a full flight(if there are any) will only be bringing in 2/3 the number of passengers that they used to when full. Well, it's a start - if they actually open on that date.

One plan mentioned a while back was to open SDQ, PUJ, and STI first.
A couple of the airlines are blocking middle seats, but I know for a fact American Airlines is not. We're scheduled to fly from SDQ to MIA July 9th. Was going to go July 7th but it's their first flight out of here (maybe) & it was booked solid, including the middle seats. It's really crazy when you think they're enforcing all this social distance in the airport, all the way down the ramp to the plane & then cram you in with inches between you & everyone else. We wouldn't go at all, but since we came as snowbirds in Dec & were supposed to leave the beginning of April, we really need to return. Luckily, we're retired, so one less thing to worry about.

UK where i'm from has 10,000 new cases a week and we have been getting infections "under control" and that is just the tip of the iceberg as probably at least 80% of cases go undetected because of no symptoms
This is brutal news and happening everywhere including the DR whose populace is incapable of preventing the spread of the contagion. Uggh.

And if they imposed a self-isolation, that would be ok too. :)

Here's one for all my Doomsday Davie and Crazy Charlottes to ponder while anticipating their international travel plans, particuarly the flight aspect of the journey. What of the restrooms on those planes, in regards to Covid-19?
On that note, time for me to select a Malbec for this evening. 🍷

You make an interesting point here, as I just saw where the governor of New York wants to flag arrivals from the state of Florida.
How would he feel about flights from the RD?
Furthermore for RD, two main travel points JFK and MIA....both so called epicenters.
Well to be fair, the governor really doesnt have a say in airports. Thats all federal. But heck, Canada isnt even open to US travelers but we'll allow travel to and from RD in 2 weeks. Just seems unlikely.

With exploding exponential cases in the United States, how could any country allow flights in from the United States.

The United States is the piraya of Covid-19.

I just saw the EU is considering banning any incoming US flight going forward with their massive explosion in cases.

With the DR trending toward 1,000 new daily cases, allowing the United States to ram 1,000's of people into the DR is Covid suicide.

So many Americans in Covid denial. No masks, no distancing, I mean absolute rebellion against Covid protocols.

But let's shuttle in 10's of 1000's of them because tourism needs to be re-lit.

Good luck.

Spouse had a conversation with some friends in NYC, 2 of whom are connected to the DR Consulate. Was told July is highly unlikely, more like Aug or Sept. But there are so many "rumors" flying around who knows. I even doubt at times the DR government knows from one day to the next. We all know how things can just happen on a whim. We have never left our home in DR for this long without one of us being there. Family checks when they can but with curfew, etc...it is not so easy. So spouse is getting kind of anxious to get back. So we will see what happens. Spouse is also DR citizen but would prefer to go when things open up. Again we will see.

You know to know when? Spain has just opened for international travel.

With 334 new cases yesterday, against 889 in the DR. With population 4 times as big.
Spain has 7 new cases per 1 000 000 inhabitants. DR has 84.
And Spain is not stupid. They needed badly those tourists. But were prudent enough to wait until the graph started to show a clear slide.

But then again many countries of Europe have 1 or 2 cases per 100000 and therefore 7 does not look like a good holiday destination.

And US tourists will not be allowed as the EU is about to travell ban the USA.

maybe not that much of a success story.

Maybe they are looking at the figures Puerto Rico has 5536 cases and 146 deaths. Republica Dominicana has 25086 cases and 647 deaths. I don't know what that works out at per million of population.

As DR is 3 times larger the numbers tell its the same rate of infection. Based on the fact that the numbers are underreported in both places either both are hotspots or not
