Zika in Barahona

Carmelita, a 7 year old little girl I know in Barahona, has fallen very ill with the Zika virus. Vomiting, a rash and a fever. The local hospital recommended that she be sent to Santo Domingo, as they apparently do not have the means to treat her there.
Does anyone know which hospital in SD is treating victims of this disease? It has me very worried.

There is no cure for Zika, but the treatment is basically the same as for the other mosquito born diseases. Tylenol or equivalent, plenty of fluids, bed rest. No aspirin, no anti-inflammatory medication.

I hope this little girl gets the care needed quickly and has a fast recovery..
I am curious as to which labs or clinics in country can test for this?, perhaps I missed something but to get
correct Zika virus results is not an easy task.. Any input to which labs do the test ?.

I have two friends who report that they have had it.. although not tested or confirmed. they say it is the rash.that differentiate . It appears to be self limiting There is a report coming out from doctors in Argentina who put forth the possibiity that the cluster of birth deformitiies may be linked to a pesticide which had been introduced in the water supply. They say that Zika has been around for a long time without these deformities. these doctors of course will be dismissed as whakos.. since., wowo how could putting pesticides in the water cause any harm? I mean.. really?

Does anyone know if the government has started a campaign to kill/diminish the mosquito crop for this year? If Zika get's out of control I would imagine that could have a meaningful negative impact on tourism revenue this year.

every once in a while they send out teams to fumigatethere really is no way to eradicate the mosquito.. which is an insect NEWS NEWS . so not perhaps referred to as a crop

the all inclusives do a lot of spraying and so they are pretty mosquito and disease frsee

There are posters and pamphlets in easy to read format with pictures explaining the symptoms of the Dengue, Chickungunja, and Zika Virus. It also talks about mosquito avoidance. They have them at the hospitals, clinics, and schools. They've had several townhalls here in Jarabacoa with the director of the public hospital giving a lecture and taking answers and questions. I haven't seen or heard of any door to door efforts.
We have sprayed our schools several times, and talked to all our staff about leaving anything around that water can lie in and all the classes have had discussions about picking up garbage, old tires...etc.

If she is taken to the capital Robert Read Cabral is the main paediatric hospital, unless the family has private health insurance.
