No vehicle exonerations requested for this election

For the first time, the political parties have not resorted to the requesting of vehicle exonerations as a way of financing their political campaigns. So far, as reported in the Listín Diario, no political party has requested exonerations as had been the tradition in the past. The Listín reporter, Santos Aquino Rubio, speculated that if the practice is not used, it may be the end of it. There is no law that establishes the obligation of the government to grant such exonerations to the political parties, but it has been the custom. The PRSC, PRD, PPD and Alianza Social Dominicana have gone on record as saying they are against them. The PLD has said that, as a party, the matter has not been discussed, but they would follow suit with the other majority parties.
