PGA returns to Cap Cana

Cap Cana has announced the celebration of the third PGA Tours in the Dominican Republic. The Cap Cana Championship, which brings leading senior golf legends to Dominican shores, will take place 22 to 28 March. The event follows Pro Am, which will be played on 24 and 25 March. The purse at the Cap Cana Championship is US$1.6 million and there will be a US$240,000 prize for the winner of the championship.

Ricardo Hazoury, president of the Cap Cana board of directors, said that 78 professional players are expected. The tournament will be 54 holes and stroke-play. Cap Cana Championship director Efren Garcia Estrada said that 2009 championship winner Keith Fergus has confirmed his attendance. Also confirmed are Bernhard Langer, John Cook, Jay Haas, Jeff Sluman and Andy Bean.

Mike Stevens, president of the PGA Tours Champions Tour praised the Dominican event, saying that it has enabled them to continue with the expansion of the Champions Tour that is also being played in South Korea and Canada in 2010. “The Cap Cana Championship is an example of recognition that has permitted that our brand and our players to achieve important positioning at a global level”.

Deputy Tourism Minister Magaly Toribio represented the Ministry of Tourism at the event.
