The Dominican Republic has been selected to host the 46th Ordinary Session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) in June 2016, announced the Ministry of Foreign Relations.
Speaking at the 45th General Assembly held in Washington, D.C. held on 15-16 June 2015, Minister Andres Navarro said that he was proposing the Dominican Republic as the location for the next OAS Ordinary Assembly in 2016 as a demonstration of the country’s strong level of commitment to the OAS institutional strengthening and modernization process. Nineteen foreign relations ministers from the Americas attended the event that mainly focused on the start of reforms to modernize the regional organization.
He said it would be an honor for the Dominican Government headed by President Danilo Medina to host the ambassadors. His proposal was greeted with applause from the member countries and was followed by an announcement by the new OAS Secretary General, Luis Almagro Lemes, who said that the Dominican Republic had been selected as the location for next year.
