Migration Agency Action Plan for undocumented foreigners

The end of the free registration and grace period under the National Foreigner Legalization Plan has implications for all foreigners in the country with irregular status who have not registered. The Migration Agency released the Action Plan for Immigration Policy 2015-2016 yesterday, Wednesday 17 June 2015, with details of the protocols for the implementing of the Immigration Law.

Foreigners detained for irregular status will be checked into seven centers for review of their cases and a final decision about their deportation. They will be located at the Vacation Center in Haina, in the National District, one in Santiago de los Caballeros, Benedicto in La Altagracia and others in Pedernales, Jimani, Elias Pina and Dajabon. Each center will have a professional interdisciplinary team.

A methodology that guarantees the protection of human rights, legal due process and individual treatment of each case, will be used for migratory interdiction. The Migration Agency has consulted advisors from the International Organization of Migration, the United Nations, the national children’s protection agency Conani and others.

Military and police officers will support Migration agents but will not carry lethal weapons, only nightsticks and tasers.

The repatriations will be carried out from 6am to 5pm from Monday to Saturday, except for public holidays. The document, signed by the Director General of Migration, says that the ministries of Public Health, Public Works and Communication, Higher Education Science and Technology, the Attorney General Office, and the National Council for Children and Adolescents (Conani) are also supporting the plan.
