Construction starts at the first St. Regis in the Dominican Republic

Marriott’s high-end tourism resort brand, the St. Regis Hotels & Resorts is under construction in Cap Cana, in southern Punta Cana. President Luis Abinader was there for the groundbreaking ceremony on 14 October 2020.

The St. Regis Cap Cana Resort & Residences is slated to open in 2023 featuring 200 luxurious guest rooms and suites with ocean views and 67 residences. The resort is off from the Jack Nicklaus-designed Punta Espada golf course.

Yamil Isaías, executive vice president represented the investor firm Pioneer Funds at the groundbreaking ceremony. Dino Campaña, was there for the builders and designers, Campaña Ricart & Associates.

The design integrates the resort with the Punta Espada golf course. Hotel guests and residents are part of the environment as if they were a natural component of the course.

“We are creating a world-class destination with The St. Regis Cap Cana Resort & Residences and are proud to bring a new level of luxury to the Dominican Republic,” said Dino Campagna, President of Campagna Ricart & Associates. “The resort is slated to be developed on one of the most breathtaking natural sites within Cap Cana and will be complemented by the iconic style and bespoke service of the St. Regis brand.”

Marriott International is the chosen operator for the resort. Its area general manager for Marriott International in Santo Domingo, Matt Knights, said at the event: “The groundbreaking of The St. Regis Cap Cana Resort & Residences marks an exciting moment for both Marriott International and the Dominican Republic’s tourism market. Cap Cana is truly one of the world’s most exclusive resort destinations and a perfect fit for the iconic St. Regis brand and its guests.”
