A Barahona court has ordered pre-trial detention for three Central Electoral Board (JCE) employees, and a group made up by two Dominicans and six undocumented persons that are accused of committing identity fraud and document forgery crimes.
The arrest of the group took place after several months of intelligence work in southwestern Barahona province communities of Vicente Noble, Galván, Tamayo and Neiba. The actions coordinated with the JCE, the Criminal Investigation Department of the National Police and the Public Prosecutors Office.
Sylvio Enmanuel Andres Recio and Yoan Amancio Vidal, employees of the Neiba and Galvan offices, respectively, were ordered to serve three months of custody. Sucre Omar Duval Silfa, also an employee of the JCE, was allowed to post bail.
Likewise, the Dominicans Caridad Eugenia Rodríguez Contreras (la Chichi) and Dominguito López Pérez (Dominguito), were given three months of preventive imprisonment; and the undocumented foreigners Michell Ange Bien Aime and/or (Estefania), Josué Dupont and/or Héctor Julio Rosario Núñez, Luis Dupon and/or Kelvin Mora, Andrio Mancebo, Eddy Montilla and Yudelka Domice, were given six months under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in charge of the investigation.
According to the investigations, the modus operandi consisted of Rodriguez Contreras approaching the illegal foreign citizens in Santo Domingo East with the offer of Dominican nationality.
On the other hand, Peguero, in cohoots with López Pérez, was in charge of the forgery of documents such as birth certificates, and identity cards, given his insider ties with the JCE.
According to the declarations of the Haitian nationals who tried to obtain the fraudulent Dominican citizenship cards, the forgery network charged RD$70,000.00 to RD$100,000 for the fraudulent citizenship documents.
The group is accused of impersonation, use of false documents and falsification of public documents.
