The gross international reserves of the Central Bank stood at US$537.3 million at the end of June 1996. The money issued during the period January-June 1996 decreased by 6.2% when compared to the same period last year.

The rate of inflation from June 1995 to June 1996 was 6.2%, against the 11.8% registered for the same period in 1995, reflecting a slower rise in domestic prices. The secretary of Industry and Commerce, Jose Ramon Gónzalez Pérez, said that there will be no restrictions on the part of his ministry on the issuing of sugar import permits. He said that, so far, every request from the Instituto Azucarero Dominicano has been granted.
