Joshua R...

You are confusing San Pedro de Macoris with San Francisco de Macoris. They aren't even in the same part of the country. Their only link is the "de Macoris" sobriquet due to having been ruled by the same taino cacique (Macorix) when the Spaniards arrived. San Pedro is known for its baseball players. San Francisco, sadly, is known for its drug dealers turned millionnaires. (Yes, I know...some of you will take offense...but I'm francomacorisano...and trust and believe...my family made a fortune dealing drugs in Washington Heights. And I know plenty others...LOL!)

But the obvious answer wasn't mentioned by anyone...Constanza. Absolutely the most beautiful little town on the island.

So what's up NAHLS...Are you going to put up Cotui in your poll? It has more votes than Barahona, San Juan and San Pedro. If you want to read what's going on in Cotui here's a good blog COTUIDIGITAL.COM
Your suggestion is a little late. :cheeky:

Why is it that there are no museums/cultural atractions in the cities of RD (except Santiago and Santo Domingo). All of our major cities were founded during the 1400's and 1500's, is it that we don't have an important past?

I wish these cities could become more culturaly rich, like the cities in Cuba.

Dominican cities and their foundings

Santo Domingo de Guzman (founded 4 August, 1494)

Santiago de los 30 Caballeros (founded in 1495 by Bartolome Colon, brother of Cristobal Colon)
Benem?rita de San Crist?bal (founded in 1495)
Concepcion de la Vega (founded in 1495 by Cristobal Colon)
Bonao (Founded in 1496 by Crist?bal Colon)
San Felipe de Puerto Plata (founded in 1496 by Bartolom? Colon or Nicol?s de Ovando)
La Romana (founded in 1496 by Bartolom? Colon)
Santa Cruz del Seybo (Founded in 1502 by Juan Esquivel)
Salvale?n de Hig?ey (founded in 1503)
San Juan de la Maguana (Founded in 1503 by Nicol?s de Ovando)
Azua de Compostela (Founded in 1504 by Diego Vel?squez, conquistador for Cuba)
San Fernando de Montecristi (founded 1506)
Cotu? (Rodrigo De Trujillo for order of Nicolas de Ovando, in the year 1510)
Hato Mayor del Rey (Founded in 1520 by Francisco D?vila)

I am curious why is it that people prefer Santiago over Santo Domingo? (according to the current poll results...)

I have to say, La Vega, I just love the hometown feel. The people are nice, generous, and feel like family.

Santo Domingo is too cut throat and bourgeoisie. I'm already from a big city in the states, I don't need the headaches when I go on vacation.

My fav for a big city is Santiago ...my fav small town is Monte Cristi (peaceful, beautiful El Moro national park, new little airport that is now the closest to Miami from the DR and will probably bring a lot more tourism to the towns coast as the airport grows) ...my fav touristy sport is Cabarete. Jarababcoa is also nice.
