This is so funny, thanks for the laugh. The horror, some drunks ruined your vacation! Management should have dried up the free drinks for the patrons to really see what a third world problem looks like.

I've never been a fan of the AI model, where foreign companies make money by keeping the natives away from the tourists. Sure, I'd be unhappy and I'd complain, and a reputable company would compensate.

Can't wait for somebody to post the facebook pictures of the Dominicans who had the time of their lives!

After reading the article three times, I think this is really an issue of poor management.

Food ran out on the buffet, even though the same scenario repeats many weekends every summer. Someone didn't plan appropriately.

And the manager took that wonderful defensive attitude that we are all familiar with: no es mi culpa. Given that foreign tourists are an important part of business, the management would be better off knowing how customer service is handled with different nationalities. Americans (I can't speak for the British) expect to be pampered and for the management to say, "We are so sorry this is taking place, and we're working on resolving the situation. Please bear with us and we'll make it up to you."

To me, this would not ahve been enough to ruin a two-week vacation, as the invasion of locals was only on the weekend. The rest of the week, the AI was probably very quiet. One angry British tourist organized a revolt and now the entire complex looks bad. And he really didn't help his own situation out, as he opted to go to another AI that was of lesser quality.

Just imagine how this could have turned out differently if the management would have appeased the one angry man with a beautiful woman carrying him drinks with little umbrellas.

Like I said, a generational breakdown.

the couple living beside me are a retired Dominican gentleman and his wife. we live in a rather nice neighborhood, so please don't all of you start saying i should get out of the barrio. they migrated to Florida 30 years ago, and now that they have paid their dues, they decided to come home, and enjoy the sunset years.

well, they are going to Tampa on August 10, to visit the kids and grandkids. they have been back in the DR for less than a year, and the wife has already served notice that she will not be coming back from that trip, and if the husband wants to, he can come back alone. her statement is that she will not live in a country populated by people whom she characterizes as 'animals"

her words, and sentiments. not mine.

NV I have to agree with you entirely ,,I have never seen a population that is so inconsiderate to other people ,,you can this in every day life here , Absolutely no manners ,It is a wonderful surprise to find the occasional Dominican with good conduct .
I used to use my cedular occasionally to buy a day pass in an AI hotel but really everything is so bad,,with shocking food and everyone wanting to eat and drink too much so they get their moneys worth , that the pain is not woth it . The people from Puerto Rico used to be worse than the Dominicans. Well , if Ai hotels are bad then an Ai hotel at Puerta Plata would be at the very bottom because that city is a total dump now , unfortunately . A bad group of Dominicans, shocking management of the hotel and rotten luck for the Brits who should have been given tickets to have their breakfast elsewhere and the Dominicans ejected .

i have a theory that might be bizarre, but it is a work in progress, so bear with me. the average Dominican who goes to these AI hotels belongs to a class that does not understand the concept of value, or money's worth. they believe that once they have paid a certain amount of money for an article or service, they are entitled to something far in excess of the consideration money. if they spend 100 dollars on a hotel stay, they will try to consume 150 dollars worth of value, and, if they cannot consume it, they will either take it, or break it.

if you ask a Dominican hooker who she would rather pass her time with, it will invariably be with a foreigner. to them, the Dominican does not want to be satisfied. he wants his pound of flesh. so, he will take as many viagras as his system can withstand, and try to pound her to death, to get his 'money's worth.

i am still working on the wrinkles.

Hahaha! I am smiling as I write this, but I'd love to get a copy of the finished conclusion. I think so many connect with that, but have never had the mental gymnastics to write it down, well done.:knockedou

Shame on her. She owes the animals an apology. Animals have more class.

I dont know... I dont buy that. I think its a lot more than just "trying to get their moneys worth". As for the class of dominican that can visit an AI, BS also, lower class cant do it. Its middle class or upper middle class. or the occasional dominican york. No excuse for it.

Ill say it again, I sincerely believe it is an endemic cultural issue caused by a lack of good parenting and simple education.

Morals arent taught anywhere and that is the start of the problem. Everyone learns from example only and when all you see is that everyone is out to help themselves and only themselves, well, thats what you learn to do as well.

At the end of the day, nothing can be done about it. This type of thinking is so ingrained in the populace that nothing will ever change or fix it. It is impossible to convince a dominican that they are doing or acting in a way that is unbecoming.

Weren't you complaining about loud music during the weekends in your neighborhood? Also not so long ago, you also complained in some other thread about a truck parked underneath your balcony?

Now you claim to live in a "nice neighborhood". If you ask me, loud music or trucks in "nice neighborhoods" are a rare sight, and most certainly trucks are completely none existent in "nice neighborhoods".

Your comment quoted above, sort of contradicts all your other complaints about your neighborhood. Something just doesn't connect here, I wonder what it is.

A wishful scenario for the Population. If only it was like this..

"several of the Dominican guests retreated into the corner of the pool with a DR Beat Box and listened to the entire album of The Twelve Dreams of Doctor Sardonicus.. One was overheard saying, Man i haven't heard that album in over 20 years as he pulled a big puff from his blunt"

i have an idea what does not connect, but i will withhold revealing it, lest i fall afoul of the moderator. firstly, the noises are made by the stereo systems in the cars of some of the little riquitos who live nearby. secondly, the truck that parked under my window is way out of the financial reach of barrio people.

any other questions?

Yes one more question.

Why did some other poster, (someone that knows you personally) call you a "snake in the grass"?

Well I have to say that I have never been a fan of AI's but over the years it has been easier to go to an AI than overseas, so off we went. To a Barcel? here in PC. We have become friends of the management and so we get a bit of VIP treatment which is marvelous and far better than the Dominican deals. When we had to complain (during Spring break, unfortunate timing for booking) about the kids jumping off bridges etc. into the pool - management quickly dealt with it, all you have to say is American kids with enough money to come = parents with LAWYERS... but seriously, the management were brilliant.

We NEVER go to an hotel here in the DR for a weekend, we have learnt our lesson very early on. Best to go from Monday to Friday. And as for eating the hotel out of house and home, I have never seen anything like it. Their bags are heavier when they left than when they came. But no one says anything, life goes on.

I can understand where these Brits come from in the sense that they come from the UK and Thomson sold them this spiel about paradise etc., and the hotel management honestly should have done something to appease their guests or at least explain that this is the way it is done here etc., we have all seen it!
