A lot of businesses closed in Sosua

. . . Sosua is definitely a unique and charming small city with many great attributes. . . .

. . . Sosua definitely has something special and I hope that it can negotiate the twists and turns to maintain that uniqueness and even market it effectively. It's an experience for potential tourists looking for more than the all inclusive experience, and it certainly stands alone. I don't know of another place like it. . . .

The developers of the AHNVEE project share your sentiments. Those very same sentiments, as well as the experience that you allude to "for potential tourists looking for more than the all inclusive experience", are all a part of what influenced their decision to locate here in Sos?a.

Although the business model is "all-inclusive", their demographic is not what would be considered the typical "all-inclusive" guest. The "typical AI" guest in the Dominican Republic is here more for the budgeted travel package and inclusion of "all you can eat and drink" inexpensively, with emphasis on never leaving the resort property.

As I mentioned earlier, the AHNVEE demographic is ACTIVE adults, seeking a Caribbean vacation including adventure, fine dining and relaxation. Their guests are ENCOURAGED to leave the resort property and experience the unique adventures offered nearby. Even though they are providing exclusive private areas with resort services included on both Sos?a and Cabarete beaches, guests will be enjoying the opportunity to explore the diversity the two towns and nearby areas have to offer, outside the walls of the property.

As far as Sos?a maintaining it's uniqueness, I don't think that will ever be an issue. I'm not sure how long you have been visiting here, but from personal experience (I have been living here for 15 years and visiting for 25) I don't see Sos?a changing enough to lose the qualities that make it attractive. And since many of the positive qualities are associated with its geographical location and setting, e.g., proximity to airport and public transportation, calm safe bay and harbor, numerous beaches, nearby mountains and rivers, etc., it will always remain appealing.

Last Friday, Oct. 21, Pedro Clisante was once again closed to vehicular traffic in the evening and a jazz band was performing on the western end. Several vendors set up tables along the sides of the street near the stage and many restaurants set up their chairs and tables in the street as well.

AND . . . not a peep from the usual complainers.

I guess it doesn't matter if that private area is illegal or not, it is the DR.*

The part that will be "private", will be the structures where hotel services and amenities will be provided, as well as lounge chairs, tables, umbrellas, etc.

They certainly will not be doing anything illegal. They have more "eyes" watching their every move than you could imagine.

Then they won't be private areas "of the beach" , they will be private areas "near the beach". *

So, they will purchase a beach bar?

...like I said before...it is scepticism. You see it as complaining....so be it.

I'm skeptical as hell...hope they prove me wrong.

You and me both. *The concept makes zero sense to me. Where else has this been tried and shown to work?*

My reference about "complaining" was in regards to the closing of Pedro Clisante last Friday night, not the AHNVEE project.

There is plenty of skepticism about the AHNVEE project here on dr1.

The closing of Pedro Clisante for musical events and entertainment is certainly a good thing. *

It certainly was, and is. That is what I was referring to when I mentioned hearing nothing from the usual complainers. The event took place last Friday and nothing was mentioned about it, well on dr1 anyway.

+1 for closing of the Pedro Clisente, but Jazz music... not a fan - it's not a popular music, why does it get so much airtime (two nights so far with one more of some sort of activity to come next month !).

I was not there, but was it actually jazz? *

No idea, I am no expert, it all sounds the same to me.... (it was played by the same Dominican band as the last time I think).

Another thing we noticed was they didn't put any chairs at all (same as the last time). I know it is a good trick to get people to sit at the restaurant and consume and make money for businesses, but at least a few chairs should be provided by the organizers in front of their stage (how long can you stand up idle and listen to that music - can't dance to Jazz ! It was ~5 min in my case... lol)
