Can someone let me know if puerto plata will get hit hard? I'm currently at lifestyles/cofresi. Also, there was a group for hurricane updates on whatsapp that I left the group and lost the contact. Is it still being used and does anyone have a link to it? Thanks much

Lifestyles has not given the guests some directions? That's scary.

I would not want to be in a room that faces north or west. I would want to know where the "safe area" is. I would want lots of bottled water. Extra towels. Some food that does not need refrigeration and can be eaten cold as is. Does their generator work for where you are? Flashlights/batteries? Do they have medical staff and at least basic first aid kits?

If Maria does as Irma did, then I would not want to be out in the open or open a north or west side door or window. Irma was kind to us but we really don't know what Maria will bring.

Just talked to my wife in Germany. Lovely weather and having a good time. This is the trip that I decided not to take due to Maria. She had a frantic call from a friend that said that her daughter was in Punta Cana and the hotel told all the guest that they had to leave. No help on where to go or how to get there, not providing any transportation. My wife made a few calls and managed to find a private bus going to S.D. and got her on it. Then (someone) found a flight out of S.D. to ???? so all is well for that young lady as far as we know.

Don't know the hotel/resort or any details.

Kicked out of a place without any idea what to do, how to do it and where to go. That's scary too.

Lifestyles had a very specific plan through Irma, moving guests to one area, using their back up energy and delivering food etc to those guests , so imagine they will have a similar plan this time

with the storm looking to go about 60-80 miles north of cofresi.....I would suggest that you might have 40-60 mph winds and maybe some higher gusts. cannot see it being worse than that.......storm is now on NW track which is better for us on the north coast...........lets see after 5pm or8pm update.

take a upper floor room, no ocen front building of course no ocean view, in case it gets rough grab waters, Snacks, cellphone and roommaid and hide in the bathroom, thats your safe place. stay away from those nice big plastic/glass veranda doors.
let your wife know when you guys need more snacks or drinks in the bathroom.

sounds weird, i dont believe that without details, which Hotel?
teh resorts here did already 2 days ago move all guests from ocean front buildings to the further back buildings and left all ground floor rooms empty.
emergency centers are ready at the resorts in case people get hurt.
some hotels got again completely emptied, evacuated. the Touropeators, airlines and tourism ministry and the Resorts did that job together.
so did your family travel completely alone? then they have toopen their mounths and ask for info.
transportations for the moves/evacuatioons been all provided to get moved to other hotels.
Canadian airlines flew yesterday their tourists out and had today planes on the ground for others who want to join.

My wife is with friends in Germany and just getting ready to go out and party. After all it was 5 PM and running late. So I didn't get any details concerning the young lady in Punta Cana. This could have happened a day or more ago.

When it's time to party in Germany... talking to hubby is low on her list.

At least I will have Maria.

IMPORTANT. PLEASE READ.

Let's keep any chit-chat out of this thread, and out of the WhatsApp thread. Here it just clogs up the forum, let's please let Mike Fisher keep updating us, without having to wade through other posts. No posts from CNN, FOX, etc.

On the WhatsApp thread, each time someone posts there it goes to everyone who has subscribed, and will kill their phone battery much quicker. If they have no power, this is a serious issue, and to some it may be their only way of keeping in touch to know what's happening around the country.

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

It should be similar to when Irma passed. Winds 50mph gusting to 70mph. Storm may pass a little further away, so it might be less if current projected path holds. It won't be a huge deal.

Maria is surviving a full PR walk as a Cat4,
at least it will be above 130mph when hitting water now.
shut, no position updates from the NHC.
Sat loops are useless, as they are 45-60 minutes delayed.
tho it looks Maria already trying to show again the Center on the loop still over land aside Arecibo.
this Storm shut down the doors on landfall and did not feel any pain on the walk over.
thats the yesterday mentioned specific behavior/resistance of a extreme-small eye Storm.
the fast rotation of the Bands keeps the windpowers up and assists to rebuild dumped walls in no time.
we need Hunter Data about the position to get an idea about the Tracking.
it is now, when over water, that the Tracking for the next 6-10hrs is set, and that decides it's distance to our Island.
where are the flying Nuts when you need them?

This GFS model is now 10 hours old seems to have done a real good job in predicting where Maria would make landfall(looks like Rosey Roads took a direct hit)and where it would go offshore on the north coast.

From the model, it looks like Punta Cana could get some very strong TS force winds with hurricane force gusts(?. Same for Las Terrenas. North Coast looks like it could get some strong TS winds, but not sure if this model has taken into account the new course of 305 degrees(?). Will know better when on the next update.

no page has a actual position, as the NHC did not deliver any new data since 11AM.
all shown tracks are the old tracks from 11AM.
we need the real NOW Poistion and Heading to know how close it comes.
Windstrength here at my place is rising by the minute, it is blowing very hard already.
no wind tho
