means stay away .... rat trap . infested with scammers

Just back from the gym in Sosua, I go most mornings. Didn't see any of what you speak. Also went to the beach the other day and no hassles. I think Sosua haters are the ones that dont live, or rarely go there. It's not as bad as one would read on here.

Why does anyone care? sosua is a whore town, boca Chica is a whore town, they will never change,so why is sooo much written? I think it is funny, when there are more ladies of the night in Puerto Plata, also if one knows where to look in Caberate, plenty,so who cares? The Xpats who live in Sosua? If you moved there without doing your homework, sorry.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder I guess. You mention the beach, where do you think all those toilets flow to? Squatters don't normally build approved septic systems.

After many years in the Capital and countless weekends in Punta Cana, I moved to the North and have found much more of an Expat community, cheaper cost-of-living, better restaurants, nice beaches all over, and many secure communities with very little crime. Of course like anywhere you can find the danger, drugs and seediness.

Puh. some people are really aggressive towards Sosua:). You start to wonder what type of bad experience that they have encountered..

I do agree that the prostitution has sometimes been too much (my opinion) and it brings with it increased drugs sales, thieves and other criminals. However, there are many "whore towns" in the world or at least towns without some prostitution are very rare to come by. Why let this impact your life or vacation? I make sure it does not impact me too much. As a fellow poster above I do the same - I go to the gym and the beach and finish my day/evening at the nice restaurant. Quite often I do some day/evening trips to other places.

My point is that I do not care too much who frequent the streets in Sosua as long as they do not bother me. I am pretty successful with it.

For the people that are very critical - can you name some of your favorite places in DR that I should visit and why? I am not trying to be ironic just would like some ideas for my next trip.

Funny you should mention this. In 2010, IGY luxury marinas was looking at Sosua. They were concerned about the safety of the beach and hired us to do a series of beach water tests. Bahia Sosua has a very good flush rate and tested good > 35 for Enterococcus in the early mornings, but testing late in the afternoon showed levels at 70 which is barely in the moderately safe range. < 70.5 is considered poor and unsafe. I don't know if the DR ever set up monthly testing of their beaches.

Right, so what's wrong with not liking that? I don't think anybody wants to throw cute 22 y.o. chicas in jail for trying to make a few bucks. But I also don't want a lead pipe upside my head while stumbling back to my car on a dark street.

Who cares? The Dominicans care. Dominicans do not like the 'shxx-hole' that is Sosua. Dominicans don't like the reputation it gives the country where whore mongers are prone to use the DR/Sosua/Boca Chica and Thailand in the same sentence when comparing notes. If hookers in Sosua were out of sight and out of mind, more Dominicans would actually visit their on vacation. Dominicans with money rarely do now.

And after all it is their country.

I would imagine some of that 70+ is coming from the Charimicos side. There were some films from that storm last year showing white pvc dumping straight into the bay. But it's also coming from the 20 - 30 playa sosua toilets with their "natural sand filters".

Did that private study get copied to the town/gov't? Were they supposed to start regular testing?

I get tired of saying it.... Far From the Madding Crowd is where I want to be.
Less crime, better prices, friendlier people....for a short list of pluses

Bro, did you notice when i joined this group (10 years ago) thats how long I have been living in this Country, 1 year of that in the North Coast otherwise the South. This said, do you think I may have more experience and have seen probably 80% of the best known beaches in this Country. Maybe in your time here, you may have more experience! I also know the mentality and laws and regs are pretty similar Country wide as far as waste disposal and how the businesses deal with it. BTW Look up definition of a beach and you will see Playa Sosua fits into the category. Boca Chica gave me a red skin rash always, never had that up here yet!

No, no.

Keep Sosua as is, we do not need it to infect the rest of the country with the plague existent in Sosua so please, maintain them restricted and limited to Sosua and the entire NC.

Those of us in the other side of the country love it the way it is, and feel so sad for you people in the NC and Sosua.

But one thing is correct; no even Dominicans visit Sosua, that tells the tale rather well!

Can you give us your exact location? Just so we know where not to send them?

There are wealthy Doms that visit Playa Dorada now, but yeah, they don't mingle outside the big gates.

As for the butt ugly Haitian putas. Most Dominican young ladies can no longer say they are going to be a waitress in Sosua since their whole family has the internet in the palm of their hands. Many of these mongers have posted pictures of these young ladies without permission. Especially the skimpily dressed Passions girls. So yes, the pretty weekend putas have gone underground so to speak.

You've obviously never seen Sosua beach on Weekends, and especially during Semana Santa, when its packed with Dominicans
