Are any others amazed or left in a state of wonderment, that the biggest Doomsday wise men within this thread line have opted themselves to remain within the RD's borders, effectively ignoring their home nation's advice, and their own proper wording?

If you want to know what "Lockdown" means, look at Italy and Spain.

I believe Italy, Spain and France are under a mandatory quarantine backed up by law and the declaration of a state of emergency. In all three countries those who leave their homes without a legitimate reason can be arrested or fined. That's not a voluntary lockdown.

All people in the DR have been asked to self isolate and limit their contact with others. This most definitely is a voluntary lockdown as most would define that term these days.

Excerpts from the President's speech:

However, we cannot ignore that we are facing a global health emergency and that to face it, we must work together and continue to take additional and exceptional measures, because at this moment there is no higher priority than protecting the health and life of Dominicans.

First, I will be sending the request for a national emergency declaration to Congress tomorrow

In the same way, following WHO protocols and practices in place in different countries, events and concentrations of all kinds are suspended for 15 days. This includes national and international events, public shows, cultural, artistic, and sporting events, as well as activity in bars and clubs, among others.

As I said earlier, in this context it is crucial to have the support of the entire society, acting with responsibility and solidarity, to minimize the risks of contagion.

For this reason, we recommend that all of these people stay in their homes. But, in addition, it is crucial that all citizens follow the instructions and precautions to prevent the virus from spreading further and reaching the most vulnerable through us. We urge the population as a whole to avoid any displacement that is not necessary and to, at all times, follow the recommendations for social distancing and hygiene that are being disseminated by the health authorities.

We ask the entire population to agree to follow the directions, respect the 15-day exception period and limit their social contacts.

Which part of the bold and underlines statements suggests to you that going on a picnic is ok? While technically it is not prohibited to travel about the country, you are being directly asked not to do that unless necessary.

I assume they will be better of here because unfortunately, the US will fall flat on its face. Not that I wish for it, absolutely not but just have a look what is going on there by looking at "Spring Break"... :(

A guy I know vaguely arrived yesterday on a two week vacation from New York.

Here’s something interesting. CBC news just noted 40% of the confirmed infections in the US are in the age 20 to 54 range. That’s almost half and a relatively young section of the population. Other countries had much elderly people infected.

In my case, I'm a resident. I live here and this is my home until I choose otherwise. My house back home is rented and occupied. It is no longer possible to evict tenants even if the property owner wishes to live in the property themselves.

If I returned to my country of origin I would have no where to live. I have responsibilities and obligations that I have entered into in this country that are not easy to set aside even temporarily. We hunker down where we live to see ourselves through this event. Transient visitors of course should return home as their respective governments recommend. Those with more than one residence in different locations have more options than those who don't.

Another spurious taunt meant to cast aspersions on those who legitimately are making the best decisions they can for themselves and their loved ones based on their available options and circumstances.

I have seen a bunch of reports that suggest that younger adults are coming down with cases of significant illness in numbers greater than was initially realized. Some of these patients are just as bad off as the older and health compromised individuals.

As time goes on, the trends for this infection based on age and general health will move one way and then the other before settling into what will be considered the real risk level per group.

As for lockdown .....

it's like telling a 75 yr old to stay in bed ALL night.......
and don't wet the bed

Good Luck with that one !!!

Go to the beach/river - keep your distance - get lots of fresh air and Vitamin D

The 'D' is specified for immune systems

Being careful and being a hermit are not the same

Wait....... confined to home, empty shops, fines if you go out, huge population density....... OR free movement, big house in the middle of nowhere, land where fruit and veg sprout out of earth by themselves....... hard choice........ NOT

National Energency "power" is for 25 days. The mandate to close shops, restaurants, bars, etc is still at 15 days (for now).
