I did. They have. And yet you continue.

People who overstay pay a penalty and leave. Your opinion on the matter or mine does not matter. The OLD GOTDR has indicated through it's actions that it is fine with that. The new GOTDR may not. I do not know. You do not know. We all do not know.

Is it more complicated than that?
I really don't have an opinion on immigration laws in the context of this thread other than that they should be enforced if they exist. The PLD was of the opinion that enforcing laws was not important. Hence they created the overstay fees.

In the OP, the new minister is of the opinion that the immigration law be enforced as written.

I do not have an opinion either. I have dealt with universal issues of enforcement in another post. The statement made by the new minister is open to interpretation as I have explained in another post.

Mike drop! Yourmaninvegas exits stage right :ROFLMAO:

Wow this is getting silly now. Go back to the first post, the whole thread is discussing the fact that the incoming minister has said he will apply the law regarding immigration. This is supposedly what we are discussing...

Jesús (Chú) Vásquez, the named Minister of Interior & Police in the upcoming Luis Abinader presidency, says the next government will apply the General Migration Law 285-04. He said the law was passed when he presided the Senate in 2004. “Nothing needs to be invented. Just apply the law,” he says. He says Juan Manuel Rosario, who consulted on the law back then, would work with him as Deputy Minister of Interior & Police, responsible for the migratory matters.
NO! You are getting silly now. We're discussing overstayers and you stated they're going to follow things to the letter of the law in regards to us. We have already proven 20 pages ago that quote has absolutely nothing to do with us and everything to do with Haitians. Just you and Winde keep trying to spin it to make it mean something it does not. Why? What is with your huge desire to twist things?

I'm not bothered by how much you know, I am not entirely stupid myself as it goes. What I do have a problem with, alongside many others on here, is that this is a discussion forum where people are supposed to exchange opinions and information in a civilised way. Certain individuals just seem to spend all day every day saying "shut up, you're wrong I'm right", completely dominating any thread like it's their fiefdom, without any idea of who they are talking to, what their background is and with almost zero evidence to support their own opinions. And in many cases, these are individuals who live in gated expat communities or not in the DR at all, don't speak Spanish, hardly know any Dominicans, don't know any officials and think that a couple of hours on Pedro Clissante every day watching an American football game is all you

Surely there comes a point where you accept you have made your point, you don't need to constantly keep making it and shoot anyone down who has an opposing opinion?

Shouldn't one take their own advice here? You're just as guilty as everyone else where you believe that only your opinion is valid. Some people simply don't like to be wrong and you're grossly wrong in this thread. Like someone else said, if you cant stomach it you're free to use the ignore feature. It works very well.

OK Citizens. It bothers you, why else would you post about for years on end?
I will go with this: Because DR1 is supposed to be an information site about all things DR and not a misinformation site.

If the new government wants to keep collecting exit or prepaid fees on those that overstay illegally, that will be up to them.

Lol at if. Theyre currently collecting overstay fees as we speak.

They have only been in power less than a week. Do you think that a new government will implement every policy it wants to implement the second it takes office? From what I understand the outgoing administration pretty much trashed all the offices, took most of the furniture and equipment and left everything in a terrible state for the new administration. I only know this by chatting to the husband of a vice minister yesterday, but I'm sure you will know more than me.

That is the tradition when transition from one party to the other. Did the old president leave the new president a note? I heard that is a tradition in some countries. ;) I am asking because I am sure I do not know as much about this in the Dominican Republic as you do.

I have lived and run a business in DR for over 10 years, I also ran a law firm and I know quite a lot of well-connected Dominicans including quite a few in the new government. So my opinion is based on some sort of substance, it isn't just an opinion. Luckily I have quite a busy life and don't spend all day every day on DR1 trying to force my opinion on others.

Fits in with the comment that they are still collecting exit fees. The PLD was in power of the last 16 years and every new approach with the new PRM government will be in place by Thursday of the first week in office after they buy new computers, desks, chairs and get in forensics crews to try and reconstruct the destroyed hard drives if they can even find them.

Since you're a former lawyer can you tell me what the definition of hearsay is? And with that definition does anything you mentioned above matter? Have a good day, TP

Hard drives?! SSDs brother. The cost of SSD start at 100 USD for a 1 TB. Buy new drives and start over from the backups.
Why do people with day jobs be hating so much on those who don't need them anymore?

Just peeking in TP. I'm suspect of anyone "overselling" the order as I like to call it. That is not saying you are wrong or not entitled to your opinion. What I am trying to say in a way that is not rude is. . . just because you (and windy) say ""it's a fact!" , well, , that doesn't cut it. Just because you "have lived and run a business in the DR" does not explain HOW and What enforcing the law means. Those words were from the minister. Do you really know in what spirit he wrote those words? I doubt it in spite of the resume you presented. We are all here observers and we are very smart people. You would agree with that wouldn't you? So, let's see how this all plays out and look back at it in about a year from now when there will be a much clearer picture. In the meantime I think one should recognize the issue is cloudy, and subject to many interpretations.

I have no idea, I retired in 2002.

My comments on the hard drives were in regards to the issue that the PRM might have to recover data that the PLD tried to destroy on their departure.

You don't think it is a fact that the DR immigration law exists? I read it and I know for a fact it does. It has nothing in it about exit fees.
